The T’rintar Clan (Former Yutilian Clan) Page 2

Ship Design Philosophy Much as the other clans, the T’rintar believe in a philosophy and stand by their decision- making. Ancient Yutilian warships have played an ever-present role in how the current warships of today behave and look. Guided Missile Battleships were the standard centerpiece of almost every single campaign that even went as far as the War with the Emphra. Perhaps, however, the Emphra War had played the most significant role in how future ships operated. The Yutilians, at the time, believed in engaging in maximum range with guided munitions. Their technology was slightly superior to Aksren clan warships. There were some disadvantages to this form of combat, however. Shal’rein warships preferred to engage at close unavoidable railgun ranges. While it seemingly appeared that the Yutilians had an advantage, the Shal’rein were excellent shooters. It would surprise some to see that the Shal’rein warship would be closing in after the Yutilian battleship had depleted its entire stock of missiles unto them while doing little to the Shal’rein in return. Running out of missiles and torpedoes happens, and with the Yutilians, this dilemma was all too real. This wasn’t to say that it always happened, but when it did, the battleship was little more than a worthless vessel. The Yutilians still persisted that long-range combat was the only way to true victory. Pummel the targets with waves of missiles and torpedoes, and you could win the fight. Yutilian ships also carried CIWS batteries to destroy Shal’rein shells and Aksren missiles in turn. Against the Emphra, it would be brought to the true test, and the results were varied. At times, the Emphra would be relentless and never-ending. There would be so many targets that battleships naturally ran out of warheads to toss at the enemy. Emphra fleets would naturally engage or run towards the planet. At close ranges, the Yutilian warships were ineffective and often had to engage in retreating launch runs. New methods in replenishment were implemented in the beginning years, but it was obvious that the Emphra were difficult to stop. It wasn’t until the alliance with the Shal’rein that long-range combat proved effective. The Shal’rein fleets would close in to engage the Emphra at extremely close ranges, while the Yutilians provided support fire from a distance. This combined method worked and allowed both sides a sense of reprieve against past defeats. Suddenly, everybody was correct in their philosophical views in combat. Yutilian warships do have an almost equal in guided missile warfare, and that is the Aksren. The bitter hatred of the species is the fact that they had similar warships of their own that focused on torpedo warfare. At times, Aksren and Yutilian ships would be on par with each other, but there were some noticeable differences. Yutilian ships generally lacked a railgun but carried more missiles. Aksren ships were more balanced, having a loadout that was usually less than Yutilian but easily made up for with railguns to close in for the kill. The greatest change in combat philosophy was the end of the Emphra War. The Ikra and Oldra warships marked the beginning era in having Yutilian warships armed with a viable railgun but still carrying a new VLS missile array system in turn. This would allow to retain the ability to engage in long-range combat but also carry a secondary railgun. They were very potent against the Emphra in future combat, and the Yutilian captains had to adjust to this new form of warfare as well. The new battleships and dreadnoughts would pave the way for all future vessels. Even up to the Itrean Civil War, the design concept stuck in most fleets with only a minor revival of the older ancient guided missile warships. Among one of the other significant advantages that the Yutilians had was the advent of the cloaking device. During the time near the end of the Empire of Jalgren and the great Rototrein Rebellion, the Yutilians had mastered stealth technology, often using them to hide and ambush imperial vessels. They could be secretly built as well. While similar to the stealth cruisers of the UHN today, these vessels proved to be rather well built, even if hastily. It was some of the earliest forms of Itrean stealth warfare at its finest. After the end of the Empire, the Yutilians continued to develop camouflage systems that could be used on their surveillance vessels or light attack ships. The greatest breakthrough was the cloaking device. Light bending, heat omitting, and altering scale emitters could render a warship invisible to sensors. Cloaking battleships were introduced as early as three hundred to two hundred years ago and proved to be unstoppable. They were the perfect ambush vessels that could operate alone or operate as replacements to the ancient surveillance ships. It is said that a cloaking battleship existed in every sector, watching the systems of all their enemies. Nothing could escape the Yutilian ships' eyes, and information gathering proved pivotal in the survival and victories of the clan. The only limitation to such a ship was the fact that they were expensive and hard to produce, limiting their deployment. Regardless, this technological edge was something that took the Aksren hundreds of years to implement. Even the Shal’rein was never able to develop them. By the time the War with the Emphra would occur, the Yutilians gravely discussed if their technology was going to be given over to the other clans. After reluctance, the Yutilians gave the bargaining chip to the table and shared the technology to save all the Itreans against the Emphra. Today, as of the Itrean Civil War, all clans use cloaking warships, but to a limited degree. The horrifying realization to the UHN upon encountering the Itreans is that cloaking warships are very likely in UWA systems providing valuable intel to their respected posts in Itrean space at the moment. Very little can be done about it. Ground Warfare Philosophy The Yutilians always believed that ground warfare is a secondary objective over space combat. Battleships and Dreadnoughts are always prioritized in build queues as controlling space is the difference between dominating a planet or not. This doesn’t mean that ground combat doesn’t exist at all but is something that doesn’t happen all the time. In fact, in some cases, it is possible for an Itrean fleet to completely wipe out a defense fleet in orbit and bargain for a planet to be spared for resources in return. It’s possible to bypass the need for a ground invasion altogether. Regardless, ground battles can still happen. For the Yutilians or the T’rintar, ground combat is done as a blitz style. Speed is the key to absolute victory, and ground vehicles and planetary aircraft are designed to attack and wipe defenses in quick succession. The faster that a target can be taken out, the faster that the battle can be done. The Yutilians typically fought with ancient wheeled vehicles capable of remarkable speeds. By the time it reached the Emphra War, most of these wheeled vehicles were phased out. Hover tanks and hovered transports could get to locations quickly. When it comes to ground warfare, the Yutilians suffered the most at it, especially against the other clans, but it didn’t mean that the soldiers gave up so easily. Yutilians were known to be ferocious fighters. They were fast, agile, and they quickly made up for what they lacked in physical strength by having raw speed. Yutilian soldiers also proved to be brave when pressed into battle and often fought to the death, even more so in unwinnable environments. Planetary aircraft was something that the Yutilians did have an advantage at, however. They tended to be perfect at aerial warfare that was only beaten by the Palieran clan. The Yutilians do have a variety in ground units, however. Much as it is expected, they do have special camouflage hover tanks that have been introduced in recent years. These vehicles have the ability to hide and ambush opposing units. They can even serve as command posts. For their mechs, the Yutilians had their own equipment long ago, but many of the more recent units reflect the original united state of the Itreans as a whole. One such mech is slightly taller than a human and utilizes a camouflage field to attack and ambush enemy units.  With the advent of allowing Shal’rein to fight on the side of the Yutilians, the T’rintar ground combat capability has improved. This includes the procurement of Shal’rein battle tanks that the T’rintar Shal’rein could use to the eventual own constructed ground vehicles that they could use to supply to them. With this, the T’rintar have had an advantage jump in recent ground combat scenarios. Impact of the T’rintar Clan The greatest impact on humanity and the UWA was the T’rintar clan alliance of 2349. For some, the idea of the alliance with the T’rintar clan, a former enemy clan, was a shock. For others, it was almost expected. The former Yutilian clan was generally the most open of clan societies. Seeing a benefactor of having a male gender in an alien race that provided a cure to Zilik’s Disease was a welcome sight. Humanity was in need of warships, and the clan had it in the form of their older battleships. Having access to Itrea, the world that housed the beginning of all life, was a perfect bargaining chip for the humans and the clan to have peaceful relations. Everybody had something to gain from the alliance, and the T’rintar clan acknowledged it. It would be the clan that would reach out and negotiates a road of peace. They promised to protect the UWA worlds in exchange for Earth/Itrea. The UWA would “quietly encourage” male bachelors (or other genders interested in female companionship) to seek out the T’rintar clan women in hopes of marriage, mateship, further vested interests in peace, and having offspring immune to the disease. Of course, much of this is on the surface. Varied opinions remain on such an alliance. Not everyone is completely satisfied that such a partnership has been made. The surrendering of Earth (Despite the condition that it’s already in) was easily made but questioned at the same time. There are social impacts on human society. While the T’rintar number in the trillions, there are billions of humans in return. There aren’t enough males (The generally most interested population) to go around. This could easily deplete a gender population when it comes to humanity and reduce the human population if no permanent cure is ever discovered in hundreds of years. There is also a growing competition for human women to keep the human male population from all gathering and to leave to go to the Itrean worlds. Such fears are mostly muted, though. Even before the alliance, there wasn’t a gender population equilibrium in the UWA. There were generally far more men that resulted in more male bachelors. This resulted in a generally unhappy human population that struggled to have female companionship. These bachelors have instead seen the T’rintar clan alliance as a relief to such an issue. Contrary to fears, the number of mateship pairs is increasing, but it isn’t overly high as well. For the T’rintar clan, while the government heavily endorses mateship between humans and Itreans, it is still an adjustment to T’rintar clan society. During the first few months, there has been a strong positive impact overall. This includes the restoration movement to clean up Earth and bring it back to proper status again. With the help of the T’rintar clan assistance, an extensive series of older retired battleships have been lent that the UHN can use to help bolster fleet numbers and protect the outer colony worlds as the UHN attempts to build new ships of their own. While slow, more and more individuals have taken up the mateship programs in finding relationships with humans and Itreans with reports of early pregnancies. *Spoilers if you haven’t read past Gabatrix: The Terrorists of Batrice* The next several months of the alliance would see widespread movements to advance Earth/Itrea restoration further, but some places resisted such an alliance despite the widespread popularity. Of those that resisted such an alliance was in the colony of Batrice. They had been supposedly taxed and had much of its mined rare resources sent to the T’rintar clan. A controversial decision made in the beginning stages of the alliance, places like Batrice and Gillan saw resentment and widespread protests, with the colony of Batrice openly threatening to halt shipments. It was claimed that the rare materials were a necessity to help the construction of new ships that the T’rintar clan would further use to protect the outer colony worlds, but Batrice politicians argued against such a move. It was argued that the colony’s powerful defenses didn’t call for the need to have fleets of alien warships at its doorsteps and promised to give the UHN a fleet that could rival the alien ally in turn. This culmination in such a decision without going to Batrice first was seen as a mistake by the politicians of both sides. For some T’rintar, Batrice’s reaction was little more than a nuisance, but for the colonists, it was a serious matter. UWA and T’rintar politicians worked with Batrice’s politicians to come with a more suitable method that would have Batrice represent itself, but some disagreed and wanted none of it. Eventually, a series of envoys were dispatched to the colony world in the mid-2350 to help stabilize the shipments or come up with a new method to help maintain the alliance, but an attempted assassination was made on the UWA and T’rintar clan ambassadors. The bombing in Fort Batrice would lead to the arrests of two T’rintar clan delegates without trial or hearings. This would culminate into a crisis as UWA and T’rintar clan politicians did their best to come up with quick solutions while trying to secure the release of the prisoners at the same time. It is believed that politicians on Batrice were goading the clan to launch an all-out assault on Fort Batrice in hopes of discrediting the alliance or possibly something else. President Tuni’halaranta was carefully advised in her role, with her almost openly threatening to attack Fort Batrice to free the prisoners, but Batrice didn’t budge. Eventually, a unique rescue had been made from the inside freeing the prisoners and finding them not guilty of the bombing. To Batrice, it was all but an act of sedition from both the UWA and the T’rintar clan alliance. Despite the fact that Batrice continues to hold the alliance, some fear that the political climate has weakened dramatically.
