The Palieran Clan (Sometimes called the Pterian

Clan) Page 2

As some of this word got out, the rebel Palierans would return to a famous name they used so long ago. They would call themselves the Pterians. It was a way to show that they were fighting on the side of righteousness. The liberation of all Palierans had become paramount. Innovation was on the side of the “Pterian Rebels,” as they constructed new complex composite battlecruisers that could fight multiple imperial warships or gang up on a single one. They performed adequately. After the end of the Rototrein Rebellion, the Palierans made agreements to have all of their species population move out of the former imperial worlds. This was to ensure that the Palieran people were treated justly. By then, a vast majority decided to do so as conditions were more favorable. Unfortunately, there was one singular problem that would occur for the unified Palieran clan. During the negotiations with the former unified rebels, it was almost agreed that the Palierans would not get a star fortress. With five clan species, there were only four to be equally shared among the others. The Palieran clan was supposedly given five resource-rich worlds to make up for the loss, but it was later determined that the worlds were useless. It would become one of the biggest scams done by the Itrean clans. Even Rototrein’s descendants voiced their opinions on the fact that the Yutilians, Aksren, and Shal’rein all seemed to work in unison to make sure that the Palierans wouldn’t get it. The Palieran people were infuriated by this realization. Even the Alara’jal that personally requested not to get one was given one of the 2/3 completed bases. It is mainly believed that the Palieran demise was the very fact that they didn’t get one of these great bases. The realization that the Palierans didn’t get one of the star fortresses would cause a massive rift in how the Palieran people viewed the other Itrean species. Once again, they were being betrayed, and they were fully aware of it. Any form of communication or negotiation was met with hostility towards the other clan species. Instead, the clan species persevered by building up their fleet and engaging the other clans when needed. Supposedly, the first 500 years post-imperial years were one in which the people managed to push through. They had created fleets of complex warships and still had something to defend themselves. There were territorial invasions by other clans, but the fact that the Palieran people kept to themselves helped preserve their fleet numbers when absolutely needed. Supposedly, the ships performed just fine, and their technology was no laughing matter. Even then, the odds were totally against them. Many of the clans could sense that the clan had become very weak. Meanwhile, the other clans had twice as many fleets to easily overburden any Palieran fleet. It is believed that the Palierans did manage to create their own form of republic or democracy. It was heavily borrowed by Yutilian ideals but modified to their own uses. The Palierans were believed to be heavily harmonious with themselves. While not much information is available, they supposedly had one of the earliest forms of success to it, but it wasn’t to last. The ultimate threat to the Palierans was a horrible Yutilian King that wanted to expand his kingdom into the Palieran territories. To this day, even the modern Yutilians viewed the king of Kolvin’Kre as a disgusting monster and leader. He proclaimed that half of the territories of the Palierans were supposed to be his. When he launched his fleet, it was quickly repelled. By now, the Palieran clan managed to hold out for some time, but Kolvin’Kre had something in his possession. Any of the Palierans that weren’t pulled out of Yutilian clan space were his subjects. He brutally used the Palieran population for his twisted experiments in finding a disease that could be used to kill all of the Palierans to achieve his goal. He would succeed as he unleashed the disease onto all their worlds. Within 100 years, a third of the Palieran population lay dead. Kolvin’Kre would get his wish as he laid siege on the surviving Palieran people. What further made things worse was that the other clans were beginning to expand into the already weakened clan. One by one, the Palieran planets were falling. While Kolvin’Kre would never get to see his destruction, the final Palieran planets were conquered within hundreds of years. The people were declared extinct. Are the Palierans officially extinct? There is some debate by the other Itrean clans if the Palieran people are truly extinct. All their known worlds have indeed been officially taken, but great mysteries have occurred. Some made great efforts of the clan species to destroy any works of art and literature that came about from the Palieran people. This even included the attempted destruction of former Palieran population records, with Kolvin’Kre’s legacy being a perfect perpetrator. The official words by the Yutilian, Aksren, Alara’jal, and Shal’rein all report that while the last five worlds were easily taken, their fleets were very small. By the time it reached the last three worlds, there was no resistance at all. In fact, it would become known as the “Levra’Levra’Ho’Tin,” mystery. During this time, the landing ships would arrive at the Palieran worlds to find empty streets. Even the shipyards were completely vacant. The computer databanks were fully deleted, scuttled, or removed from operation. Any of the salvaged and rebuilt systems had only one word on a repeating voice tone. It simply stated “Pterian” as the final word. Further analysis was made on the deceased of the first two of the final five taken worlds. These corpses showed that they had been shot even if the bodies had long been dead. It was almost as if it was put there on purpose, almost as if history was repeating again. Currently, as of 2350 of the human calendar, there has been not a single sighting of a Palieran ship. It would actually take a thousand years before the Itrean clans would officially declare the Palierans extinct, but the mystery remains. Where did the final three world populations go? Billions of people all lived on each of these worlds. Their assets were taken along with them, and the seemingly made ghost settlements have long been taken and divided among the other four clans.  In the later years, many Itrean historians among the Yutilians have stated that the Palierans were gravely mistreated and that if they were truly extinct, then it was an outright tragedy. Their influence would ultimately shape future politics in trying to find more peaceful solutions instead of committing outright genocide. While the impact is almost minimal for the other clan species, it was enough to cause eras of peace and prosperity for the last ten thousand years. Ship Design Philosophy The Palieran warship, for some time, was a mystery in how they functioned. Technically, not much was really known about Palieran vessels over 100,000s of years ago. Some speculate that they were very much like Yutilian and Aksren ships. However, there is some debate if the Palierans were a little ahead in technology. They might have been one of the first races ever to discover Direct Fusion Drives and, ultimately, the Super Direct Fusion Drive. Regardless, the first genuine, authentic descriptions of ancient Palieran warships go as far back as the Pterian Counterattack over 65,000 years ago. Many reports and surviving pictures showed that the Pterian battlecruiser was generally pretty small but made up for its complexity. They were capable of dividing themselves into separate smaller attack ships before rejoining into one central warship. Even the largest of their dreadnoughts were essentially several tiny warships composited into one hull. It is often believed that the purpose of such a design was to mitigate the amount of damage that could be inflicted onto one portion of the entire ship. A singular internal nuclear explosion could destroy a warship, but it would be harder to complete the task if there were several smaller ships. Most of the warships were painted in bright orange, although other ships were sometimes painted in gray or blue. The Itreans have toyed with such a context. Even the Noo’dort supposedly had similar warships as well, but there are problems with composited vessels. The largest issue is that the ships are very complex in design. Each segment has to be fully functional, and the cost of producing them is generally higher. This was a philosophy that stood out with the Palierans all the way to the end, and it is speculated that it helped lead to their downfall. However, the Palierans still had some advantages in ship-to-ship combat. When they laid out their great counterattack of 65,000 years ago, they managed to score an amazing amount of victories. Technological innovation had played a role, and they had a large fleet for the other Itrean clan species to counter successfully. The most considerable speculation on why the Palierans never fully capitalized after they reclaimed so many territories is most likely pointed out in the fact that the people couldn’t sustain massive campaigns in conquering worlds. Yes, they managed to capture their lost worlds, but they didn’t want to push their luck. Instead, they would play defensive for the next tens of thousands of years. This is where many further Itrean historians point out that the fact that internal politics, economics, and societal values created a stagnant era for the people. This would lead to only small fleets that patrolled and defended the borders from hostile clan species attacks. Technically, the post-Pterian counterattack era was one where few incursions into their worlds ever happened. Palieran warships, by the time of Jalgren, were barely able to repel the Aksren fleets. Discussions were being made in the clan if they wanted to lay out a fundamental defense or simply surrender. Many Itreans blamed the Palierans for not joining up and trying to defend the Yutilians for not fighting back against Jalgren’s invasion fleets, but it’s argued that they wouldn’t have won in the long run. Jalgren simply had the better resources in the end. The great Palieran fleets were dismantled, with some surviving ships being saved far in the future. The Palieran Rebel or Pterian Rebel warships that resisted and fought for Rototrein were by many accounts the “modern-day aspect of Palieran ships.” These ship designs would follow a similar route for the end of their known existence. They continued the complex composited designs and had flying carriers that could house their aerial soldiers. Even then, the Pterian Rebels never had the enormous fleets that the other clans had, but every little bit did help. Like the other species, the Palierans did play a role in bringing down the empire. The lack of a star fortress was what really doomed the Palieran clan’s rebuilding era in the post-imperial years. With the star fortress, large amounts of ships could be built as long as resources were supplied to it. Essentially, they were the perfect bargaining chips in the clan species as they could help assure a balance of power, but the Palierans were denied this. There weren’t enough star fortresses for all clan species. Regardless, the Palierans did place emphasis on technological progression. If they couldn’t beat the other Itreans in building large quantities of warships, then maybe they could counter it by having quality. Supposedly, the Palieran vessels still managed to hold their own against Kolvin’Kre’s fleets. They could hold out indefinitely with only a ¼ of the Yutilian offensive directed against the Palieran clan. Sadly, the great disease dropped by the king would doom the people. With most of the population gone, the defensive strategies had failed. However, with the great mystery of the last three worlds, some Itreans wonder if another “Pterian Counterattack” is coming. Ground Force Philosophy It is most obvious that the Palierans never really had ground forces when compared to the other Itrean clans. They never had tanks, vehicles, or other sorts of armored mobile ground equipment. The primary reason for this was the fact that they could fly. Even aerial aircraft were almost not needed. Instead, the Palierans relied on aerial shock troopers. This would include rocket- propelled spacesuits and shuttles in which Palieran soldiers could traverse the lunar landscapes and other problematic environments. In a planetary atmosphere that they could breathe, the Palierans controlled the skies. Mechanized flight suits were little more than advanced fighter craft. What further helped the Palierans were the fact that they did use aerial flying platforms. These were little more than deployable mini troop ships. They could sometimes carry weaponry to shoot down upon the surface or at other Itrean aircraft. There were limits, however. Even the Palierans avoided fighting in the sea. While they had a significant advantage in the air, the lack of sturdy ground platforms made some battles pointless. When pressed against the Shal’rein or Alara’jal, the Palierans suffered heavily. Against the Aksren or Yutilians, however, they did manage to fight rather well. There was a profound reason why the Palierans made perfect aerial soldiers for the Jalgren Empire, but even that wasn’t to last.
