The Palieran Clan (Sometimes called the Pterian
Clan) Page 1
*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The
First Peace arc*
“There was something that the Palierans were
more than capable of. They would engage in
countless battles and have an exit strategy. With
this, they control their own destiny and will
ultimately survive us all. If you believe the current
facts that they are extinct, then you haven’t
looked hard enough to find them,” Gular’shel near
the end of the Emphra War.
Species Currently Classified as Extinct
Known History
One of the many mysteries of the Itrean
clans was that of the Palierans. Supposedly, they
should have been the most successful of the
Itrean species, but they were ultimately wiped out
10,000 years ago. They were described as being the
only species that could fly without the help of
technology. They typically had orange, yellow,
brown, tan, or other varieties of scale-like colors.
Their average height was exactly that of a human
being, but they also had wings and were
somewhat skinnier than their human
counterparts. They also had pointed beaks.
Supposedly, they might have had feathers, but a
lot of this was gone by current evolutionary
standards. They had long protruding rear head
bone and didn’t really have any tails. Much like the
current Itreans, females also had breasts, gave
birth, and breastfed live young. It didn’t take long
for the DNA samples and reports to indicate that
the Palierans were descendants of one of the
flying dinosaurs, possibly similar to that of the
Pterosaurs such as a Pterodactyl, Nyctosaurus, or
Dsungariterus.
It is often concluded that the earliest of
Itrean years, the flying Palierans had a number of
significant advantages. Many drawings as far as
400,000 years ago depicted them as having
mountain villages and living in the great treetops
of certain worlds. It was generally their goal to
avoid the other Itreans unless there was a genuine
reason for them to engage the other species
openly. Technically, very few battles occurred, and
when it did, it was generally a victory for them.
However, they were a species that predominantly
wanted to be left alone.
This in no way stopped the Palierans from
having moments of violence with the other clan
species. The need to have worlds to spread
themselves was crucial at times. Competition
could be extreme, but much like the Shal’rein and
the water, the Palierans preferred having
locations that were away from other clan species.
At the same time, records showed that they had
engaged in a variety of experiments with other
clan species. It is unknown how smart they were
as the Yutilians, and Aksren often pushed forward
on technological advances. Most likely, they were
“along for the ride” when it came to actual
experiments and being able to witness, improve
upon, or comment on things as they came forth.
In the age of “dead space,” the Palierans
was generally quiet but active. Unlike the more
argumentative nature of some Itreans today, the
Palierans seemed to be more nonchalant in
attitude. If anything, they tended to be shiftier
when it came to certain things. This by no means
meant that they were shrewd or evil but looked at
events from different perspectives. It always
seemed that the Palierans had watched where
everything went and always had something
planned in case of the inevitable.
The Palierans typically had interests in
cohabitation with other species, but it was only
natural that this led to conflict. Instead of really
having worlds of their own, they had primarily
been the sort of race that lived in isolation.
However, they still had their worlds, and these
worlds would often fall into conflict with other
clan species. This still didn’t stop them from
trading with other clan species or having remote
negotiations. If things did push them into war,
such as a belligerent clan species or disputes of
having access to resources, then the Palierans
would no doubt go to war, but again, not much of
this was ever recorded. Many Itrean historians
debated on how the Palierans were often
discriminated against on some other clan worlds
or mistreated horribly, yet there was no profound
reason for it to happen. Some simply argued was
that the Palierans had a way of alienating others
or simply preferred to be left alone so much that
they had no allies. However, this by no means
meant that the people were the type to lay down
and go with the flow of events. When pushed, they
would fight to great lengths.
It is sometimes argued that the Palierans
were the type that was just lucky or was
innovative in a unique way. It is most likely that it
was a little bit of both. The clan species were
known sometimes to play dead, even having the
ability to shut down their own bodies for
prolonged extended periods temporarily. Then,
later on, they would be able to get back and
continue forth as if nothing had happened. The
argument for having this gene applied to their
bodies was one they often quoted. “The enemy
that thinks you are dead can be the least
dangerous of them all.”
The best support for this initial argument
would occur near the end of the age of “Dead
Space.” When an Alara’jal warlord had tried to
conquer several worlds with a predominantly
Palieran population, they had launched a fleet to
go after the Alara’jal while the population had
already successfully evacuated. Little did the
Alara’jal know was that the Palierans had
supposedly passed the word to the other clan
species that they were being exterminated. It was
more than just a simple rouse. The calculated
moves were that the Palierans had learned to
explore and find new places to live long before the
other clan species began moving in on their
original worlds. Even if the other clan species had
destroyed some of these Palieran worlds, it proved
to be ineffective. There were times that the
Palierans pretended to plea with other clans to
show mercy. Sadly, it only seemed to push the
other clan species to seize their worlds. The
remaining people would suffocate under other
clan rules or be wiped out in turn. Meanwhile, the
various Itrean species would be in for a surprise.
What was 75,000 years ago, the Palieran
clan had been declared nearly extinct. This
wouldn’t be the first time that it happened. In fact,
it was almost intentional by the clan species itself.
The goal of their action was to “play dead.” The
people made actual moves to use long-deceased
shot up or disease-ridden corpses to litter the
empty destroyed cities. This fooled the clans into
thinking that they were dead or wiped out. Little
did they know was that in hundreds of years, the
clan had simply resettled into new worlds far from
Itrean territories. Within thousands of years, they
had built shipyards and stable economies. Within
ten thousand years, they had managed to develop
their own fullscale invasion fleets. The few
Palierans in the other clan worlds had no idea that
the main Palieran population was very much alive
and would launch one of the largest successful
counterattack operations ever to be known.
Within 65,000 years ago, the Palieran warships
would reclaim many worlds as the clan species
had weakened themselves due to internal fighting
and conflict with other species' clans. Some of the
attacks even consisted of commando raids to get
and pull out any few Palieran populations that
were persecuted or abused by other clans.
This was known as the “Ptar *Click* Trosa,”
or “Pterian Maneuver.” By then, many claimed
that the Palieran invaders were calling themselves
the Pterians, a group of liberators devoted to
avenging and saving others of their kind. By now,
the most complacent species had gone into a full-
scale offense. Fleets of newly designed composite-
style warships were used in the invading fleets.
Aerial troops would take to the air in destroying
planetary aircraft. While they suffered at times in
defeats, the shock and awe took many by surprise.
Counterattacks by other clans resulted in failure,
and ultimately, the Palierans had claimed new
areas of Itrean space before ultimately
considering the campaign a success. They decided
to stay on the defensive and wait for the Itreans
to come to them.
It is unknown as to what had happened in
the last thirty-five thousand years before the rise
of the Empire of Jalgren, but the Palierans were in
a weaker state by 31,000 years ago. It is mainly
argued that the clan species was in a lackluster or
downward economy. Jalgren had made his
intentions clear that he wanted to unite all the
clan species under his banner, but the Palierans
were hesitant. During his campaign, the Aksren
imperial fleet had laid its sights on the people.
There were a few battles, but the Emperor was
convincing a few years later. He recognized that
the people needed to be treated equally and
promised all that they would be treated fairly
under his regime. As the other clan species offered
stiff resistances in various degrees, the Palierans
were the last on the priority list and resulted in
the least number of casualties. By this time, the
Palierans didn’t really have suitable fleets to repel
the imperial warships, and Jalgren was true to his
word. Eventually, the Palierans surrendered
without much of a fight. The remaining warships
were scrapped, but some managed to successfully
stow their warships in ancient facilities in which
the empire would never find.
During the next 20,000 years, the empire
would very much leave the Palierans alone. Even
Jalgren had a Palieran friend and associate that he
trusted. While not much is said, some of their
artwork and culture did sneak into Aksren culture.
Apparently, the species interacted with many
individuals, but the greatest contribution was the
U’ck’ck language was both influenced and given to
them. The empire would successfully make it the
most commonly spoken tongue and writing that
almost all Itreans would adopt. The Palierans were
no different. In the army, the Palierans became
trusted aerial soldiers and were almost treated as
equals.
The empire was not to last. Long after Jalgren
had passed away, much of his ideals and
considerations were dropped in the influence of
Aksren society. Racism and discrimination became
the deathstroke of society. It is said that Aksren
pedestrians would often spit and verbally assault
those that weren’t themselves. The Palierans also
started to face similar prejudice. It is said that
“No-fly” lists would be all too common in cities
and that Palierans caught taking to the air would
be arrested or even shot. At the same time, many
of the Palierans were forced to live in crowded
cities.
When the Rototrein Rebellion started, many
of the Palierans were openly hesitant. True that
they were persecuted, not all of the Aksren were
openly hostile towards the Palierans either. It is
said that the Palierans were some of the last of
the clan species to rebel against the empire
openly. This wasn’t to say that all of them didn’t
openly fight. Once the Yutilians, Aksren rebels,
and Shal’rein started to attack the empire, the
Palierans finally got into the momentum. Early
Palieran instigators turned to the ancient shipyard
facilities where many of the now ancient warships
resided. Unfortunately, not many of these
warships were salvageable, but the ones were
given quick overhauls and sent to join the other
rebel clan fleets. As the later years of the rebellion
were in full swing, the Palierans had shipyard
facilities and other manufacturing equipment put
into place.
The Rototrein Rebellion was supposedly
really hard on the Palieran people than the other
clan species. Despite the effort by rebel factions,
there were determined Palierans that fought on
the side of the imperialists. The loyalist Palieran
imperial soldiers were often given additional
incentives to continue the fight, even if they had
to fight their own people. There were rumors that
the empire would use psychological conditioning
on hesitant Palieran soldiers. This would be done
over and over again till they would be convinced
they were fighting for the empire. By now, the
Palieran aerial brigades were quite common, and
that the empire wasn’t going to give up on it.
