The Itreans Page 1

"It was inevitable that we would meet another alien race, and we were utterly ill-prepared for it," Fleet Admiral Anika. For a long period of time, the human race would always wonder if another alien race that thought as they did would eventually show up. With things such as the "Fermi Paradox" being a common proclamation in human outer space colonization, people had little to fear in finally encountering another race. If anything, the galaxy seemed utterly empty and devoid of intelligent alien life. Unfortunately, that would come to a close on January 6th, 2349, in the sector known as JJ-78. Located in deep space far from the Cipra Colony location map, two UHN warships would encounter a ship of unknown design painted in green. Immediately, in an attempt to reach out in a matter of peaceful relations, the UHN battleships tried to communicate to them. At the very start, communications seemed hopeful but problematic. The humans received a response in an alien language with the exception of the word that they understood…..Itrean. It was used quite often that was later deciphered as a word to identify oneself. Humanity tried to use visual communication but failed to see who they looked like. Their words, most likely, were picked up as gibberish in return. Both sides remained at a standstill, but it would be quickly interrupted as another alien ship, painted in red, would show up in large numbers. These alien ships would arrive and open fire on the UHN battleships. The green painted warship went to engage the red-painted warships. Their designs seemed different only on the basis of color. Only one battleship, the UHN Drake, would survive the battle, with the UHN Cabot and crew giving their lives to help the other flee. This would be known as the JJ-78 Incident or the JJ-78 Disaster and would mark the beginning of the Human/Itrean conflict. A further encounter would occur in star system Q12 with Itrean warships painted purple of somewhat similar design. UHN warships would try to communicate, but the alien ships approached them with their weapons hot, and humanity escaped before taking any damage. There was little knowledge on who these aliens were, and a small amount of panic had struck the societies of the UWA. It was learned from the start that there was some chance of a hopeful outcome of peaceful relations, but it was quickly dashed as warfare began to spring about. Suddenly, Itrean ships had come out of nowhere from distant solar systems to wage war on humanity. These attacks would be minor, but they were having an impact. It was later determined that the Itreans were in clans or possibly divided as they would send tiny scouting waves to probe human defenses. *Spoilers if you haven’t read past Gabatrix: The First Peace arc* Ancient History It was eventually learned after the shared databases of the UWA/T’rintar clan alliance of who the Itreans were, and it surprised many of the people in the UWA and T’rintar clan alike. The Itreans were dinosaurs long descended and evolved from former Earth. Many of these aspects had changed and altered their appearances with only a few of the original species that have survived in the long-going struggle. Not much is known of the earliest days of the Itreans and when they had left Earth with only speculation of various beliefs and ancient written tomes. A single artifact had survived from the days of ancient Earth. To the Itreans, the word Itrea is the term of sacred home and the origin of all that is Itrean. The artifact consisted of a drawing of Earth over millions upon millions of years ago before the climate, and continental drift had pushed things apart. DNA evidence would also further verify this claim. Despite all of this, there is still much mystery on how the Itreans had come to be. It is only speculated that to the Itreans, they had long abandoned Earth after the discovery of gate folding technology. It is believed that the Itreans species had technology that was even more primitive than Earth was in the 1960s and 1970s to achieve space flight, yet they managed to succeed at that. When they left Earth behind, they went to the opposite side of the galaxy to almost never return until millions of years later. The written history of the Itreans is absolutely sporadic, having numerous discrepancies and disagreements on what happened over time. This would include various religious practices that erupted that would encourage a “return to nature” aspect and “The new worlds are paradise” syndrome. Even if they had long abandoned their ancient world of Itrea, the Itreans still had various issues in societal development. Unlike humans, the will to technologically progress is far less among the Itreans than humans. Brain development was also much lower among them when compared to humanity in the beginning eras. The first worlds established, now located in “dead space,” were most likely serene at first and harmonious. However, it is also believed that lessening resources and past violence between clans had originated at this point as well. Clan species began to compete for these resources that ultimately led to wars and conflict. In thousands of years, these conflicts would slowly help spurn the Itreans to develop better and better technology, but the environments of these worlds would ultimately feel the impact. Despite efforts to restore these planets to self-sustainability, wars would be counterproductive. This would go back and forth to ultimately far increasing technology that would win out against the other. This wasn’t to say that war dominated the Itrean past. There are signs of exploration with the fact that gate folding technology was available. Even if it might not have been used heavily at first, spaceships were drawn and depicted as having solar sails on them. It’s possible that fusion technology would still take hundreds of thousands to even millions of years to achieve. In the end, “dead space” would consist of hundreds of thousands of solar systems, an achievement that the Itreans had indeed managed to explore large portions of the Milky Way Galaxy with even the remote possibility of neighboring Andromeda or Triangulum Galaxies. The culmination of the disaster of the beginning eras of Itrean colonization was believed to be societal development, imperial civilizations, desire for power, changing access to resources, religion, and more. As technology continued to ever slowly progress, the Itreans had discovered better and improved power sources. Warfare would also drastically improve to the point that genocidal campaigns would be engaged to wipe out the other. Nuclear bombardment, basic heavy bore cannons, and biowarfare were advent during this time period. Eventually, however, anti-matter or cobalt warheads were mined and constructed. The yields on these were catastrophic, having enough power to crack and bust planets apart. Ultimately, hundreds of thousands of years to millions of years ago, this section of space would be devoid of life. Many of the surviving people had slowly vacated to new worlds to live on to repeat the cycle of destruction again and again. This would result in the “dead space” phenomenon where countless worlds are shattered or lay dead, never to be used. Fear of the ghosts of the pasts and beliefs would further discourage the idea of ever resettling these places again. Eventually, the Itreans did develop more improved technology on settling worlds. While challenging at first, especially with the ever- present desire to engage in warfare on the other, planets were starting to see a revival campaign. Colonization and seeding new locations had become simple but an effective capability. New drives and improved advent in providing power to feed civilizations remained. Even worlds that had been nuked could be restored into habitable status again. Societies believed in recycling and reusing things again and again. Even if planets had been abandoned in these areas for prolonged time periods, they would be resettled again and again till the people would leave it, never to return. Other planets would serve as capital administration worlds to continue harbinger the next generation and so forth. This region of space that lies beyond dead reach is known as “old space,” where some civilizations continue to operate to this day. Regardless of such achievements, genocide, conflict, and the struggle to outcompete the other species would still lead to the inevitable elimination of the other. Some speculate that there were actually nine different Itrean clan species with people of different sizes and shapes. Almost all but five remained as far as 11,000 years ago till conflict would continue to wipe out civilization after civilization. Species clan racism and discrimination were considered a constant dilemma in all of the Itrean societies to the point that it was considered a viable and only present course of action. This didn’t include the fact that internal conflict would further stem the tide of exploration and development. While some worlds were believed to have been destroyed for good, there was a respected breakthrough in the belief that it wasn’t necessary to destroy a world to win a war. While empires and kingdoms were dominant in Itrean societies for prolonged eras, this didn’t mean that other political ideas were introduced. Early forms of democracy had been experimented on in some worlds, with some lasting for tens of thousands of years. Some of them had been later swallowed up by expanding empires or simply ceased to function. Old space and its eras typically had the highest populations of the Itreans that mounted in the hundred trillion, but biowarfare was beginning to be used more and more often. It proved particularly effective to the point that it was clean, deadly, and could leave entire landscapes devoid of Itrean populations to be settled again by the conquerors. It was so effective that it dominated warfare and sometimes saved worlds from being destroyed to be settled on by another clan species. However, it proved to be very devastating on these civilizations and all of the Itreans in general. By the time of the more current ages, the Itreans were down to almost a trillion in number. “New Space” is often defined as the region of space that is closest to former Earth, with some places being about a thousand lightyears from Earth. Ironically, it is believed that the Itreans were slowly and nomadically returning back to the world that once originated their kind, even if that history had been lost. This time period is the most easily and well recorded of all, and it warranted some success. All Itrean clan species were always introducing continuous improvements to their bodies. Resiliency to such diseases had proved a saving point. Even if a deadly plague had been introduced, two more would be wiped out in return due to increased resistance. Many worlds in new space were chosen to become capital worlds even if the Itreans were the least known numbers of the time. Even then, the Itreans very rarely explored unless it was simply to find lots of raw materials. There is little evidence that the claimed territories of the Itreans have ever had much exploration. Many star systems have been breezed over, with some simply being ignored. Some of this is mostly because of the original nomadic nature of the Itreans. This, in combination with fear of being in a spot for too long, also didn’t help. Past fears of planetary decimation also further pushed the people to choose a few systems to call home and settle for hundreds of thousands of years. It is believed that the Itreans found very little in other intelligent alien species as a result, and most of the time, they simply left them alone. There is a mild form of xenophobia that does exist in Itrean history to certain degrees. Despite an ever-changing sphere of influences, the last fifty thousand to five hundred thousand years of Itrean clans’ histories still warranted a series of achievements. Among them was the continuous advancement in bioengineering and biomechanical technology. Bioorganic metal or self-regenerating metal alloys had come into existence. Reusable technology was ever-present, and the Itreans would continue to force evolve their own bodies. This would include things such as having breasts and the ability to lactate, giving birth to live young instead of laying eggs, and even advancements in a sexual nature. Super Direct Fusion Drives were common on ships that could be built in almost miniaturized form. Railguns had been introduced, growable metal alloy matter was used, and repulsor/hover technology had been commonplace. The ability to mine extremely rare resources was also becoming easier to achieve. The Empire of Jalgren One of the most significant events is that of the Empire of Jalgren, an Aksren warlord that had completely dominated all the clans. Instead of committing genocide, the Aksren emperor had denied spaceflight to the other clan species. The sphere of influence had managed to completely overwhelm every clan species to the point that he had smothered the will of their desire of self- autonomy or rely on their united governments or themselves. In his years of reign, he had forcibly united the clans under his banner. While incredibly harsh that resulted in the deaths of billions, Jalgren had achieved the impossible. He had brought an end to the clan wars and internal strife amongst them. In the time of his death and the passing successor, his daughter would inherit the entire empire. Otalitren would usher the way for an eventual United Itrea. The Empire of Jalgren, while oppressive, resulted in an economy that served many. Any opposition was dealt with fiercely, but there was little opposition to the empire as well. The thousands of years of peace was one that many Itrean couldn’t ignore. Even at the cost of freedom, security and order were more important to many than endless years of bloodshed. Under the system, a new era of incredible projects was created as far back as Otalitren’s rule. This included the monumental star fortresses, a series of Dyson rings that were built in red dwarf star systems. These expensive starbases utilized the energy given from the star to power a facility that incorporated powerful weapon systems and titanic shipyard constructive factories. The star fortresses, while time-consuming to build, would prove to be unstoppable. In the course of hundreds of thousands of years, four of these super fortresses were built.
