The Study of Sex and Gender Equality in the 24th
Century Page 2 (NSFW)
What was a common pattern was that
Itrean gender equality was very slow and gradual.
It often acted as a pendulum swing where society
practiced gender equality and then reverted to
one gender ruling above the other(s). Sometimes,
a community would limit children or allow families
to have as many children as possible. This worked
at times as planets' overcrowding and dwindling
resources sometimes led to conflict, although
there is criticism that the Itreans remained
stagnant in exploration. The lack of finding new
worlds often forced the people to live in
overcrowded conditions instead of spreading
outward. This was quite common during the ages
of “Old Space,” but the Itreans did recognize this
situation in time. Eventually, various rules were
put into place to either limit children from being
born, entitlement to have children due to status,
or various exploratory campaigns were put into
place to allow the expansion of finding new
habitable locations. All this led to a factor in
increasing the population safely.
There was a general pattern, however.
Many of the Itrean species were to encourage
evolution by biological means or natural causes.
The ability to produce children by giving birth to
live young and introducing breasts to lactate
supposedly, was unpopular but grew acceptance in
the last 211,000 years. The “Fumil and Shin’Fumil”
are proud examples of those that avoided evolving
their bodies, halting any form of genetic
enhancements, continue practice egg-laying,
having nests, and being much closer to the original
kin of the dinosaurs. The Fumil still lack breasts
and feed their children from their mouths, much
like the ancient ways. The ancient religion would
even later prove to be a DNA marker to help
support the fact that they were the original
descendants of Earth. Ironically, their ancient
religion of 50,000 years ago would help prove vital
in proving to humanity that they head a direct
DNA line to that of the ancient dinosaurs.
The Empire of Jalgren was guilty of
implementing laws on reproduction, although, in
the beginning, they weren’t brutal with such rules.
If anything, it was said that the Emperor Jalgren
was a free thinker in the matters of sex. By the
time of 31,000 years, the empire did practice
various forms of “Free-love.” There had been
experiments in various forms of sex practices,
including “mate-swapping.” Incest did happen and
was honored by some religious practices. In fact,
with medical technology, it was actually safe for
brothers and sisters to have children together
without deformities. Of course, it didn’t always
happen, and natural instincts usually drove from
much of those acts from happening. Religions,
such as the Kerein’Shaltara, were regularly
allowed to attend other mateships to participate,
assist, have sex, and entertain other mated pairs
without persecution.
Of course, mateship was treated very
seriously. This was profound by many of the clans
even before the empire and all the way through its
age. To cheat on another could result in the death
of the cheating mate. You could only have one
female and one male be with one another.
Homosexuality and Bisexuality were treated as a
disease at the beginning of the Empire, but Jalgren
believed in having everyone work together. He
abolished rules limiting such acts as some species
practiced it underground already. It is thought
that Jalgren was mated with a female and had a
mistress that worked under him. To him, the
Emperor didn’t believe that mateship should limit
itself to a monogamous relationship, but he still
also believed in some limits at the same time. For
example, while he was believed to have a female
Shal’rein under him, along with his mated wife, he
refused to allow any other mateship under himself
to occur. He would supposedly later on, claim that
“Polygamous Responsibility was important,” as to
prevent it from occurring in a widescale and
resulting increase in bachelors without mates.
There were many arguments as to why
mateship was treated so seriously. The primary
reason was to limit biowarfare that could be
applied in sexual intercourse. One such method of
warfare became a legend that groups of
“Prostitutes” would be fitted with a deadly acting
disease. Once they engaged with multiple
partners, the STD could then activate, killing the
many that were infected with it. Creating
mateships helped eliminate such actions. Even if a
male or female carried an STD, it could only infect
one person. It made this form of warfare obsolete.
Mateship also allowed a popular form of
“coupling” where the mates would be kept
together to ensure that they could properly raise a
child together. This even included warships and
battlegrounds, where the Itreans would bring their
children into combat so that they could learn how
to fight and protect their worlds. Other profound
reasons was the simple fact of honor and respect
for one another. To cheat was an act of dishonor.
Mateship was a legally bound law that meant that
they couldn’t be separated unless there were
absolutely good reasons to do so.
Much like how the Itrean language had
become widely accepted, the singular beliefs of
the empire had become a new, somewhat adopted
form of societal concepts. It was true that worlds
were repressed, but the people were not repressed
by gender. It was primarily suppressed by clan
species first and foremost. Males and females
could still hold offices, be paid equally, and barely
if ever, face issues of sexual harassment or
discrimination. While slavery might have existed
to some degree, there were almost no reports of
“sex slaves.”
Under the empire, mateship was officially
recognized to be potentially polygamous. This
sometimes allowed individuals to have multiple
mates unless it reached ridiculous numbers or
sharing of mates. One such practice that has
survived to this day was the sharing of brothers,
sisters, family members, or close friends that
could be under mateship. Some Itreans consider it
a fair practice.
Did divorces occur? The answer is yes, but it
was usually rare. Only in times where the mated
partner had proven to be insane or suffered some
great dysfunction to alter their mental faculties,
would the mateship be dissolved. By then, full
custody of children would be given to the sane
partner. Mateships would only last till the other
mated individual passed away or is killed. Did
disagreements occur between couples? The
answer is yes, but it was generally up to the
society, religion, and mateship would be applied to
the disturbed couples first. Technically, the Itreans
poured a lot of attention into making sure that
their marriages worked. Doing things like having
couples stay together as much as possible without
splitting them apart helped some as well.
As for sexual intercourse, the Itreans had
different beliefs but sometimes were very similar
to how humans would engage in the act. There
was almost no form of dating to many in the
Empire, but there were occasionally prolonged
talking engagements before the mateship
announcement was made. Once you became a
mate, you were mates for life until the other mate
died or if the mate committed a severe crime to
dishonor the other mate or if the mate had proven
to be delusional. There were generally few other
exceptions to the rule. Sex was fairly
commonplace, with areas even designated as
mating locations, pools, or even parks to have sex
freely and openly. The reason for such a decision
for society was how they viewed sex. Much like
how humans looked at it, it proved to be a viable
way to relieve stress and allow the coupling
between mateship to occur. When compared to
humans, the Itreans did have some notable
exceptions. Males tended to reach orgasm
generally quicker than humans. However, females
would have more sex in the day to make up for the
shorter intercourses.
The empire did incorporate a number of
“sexual enhancements” to men and women of all
species. This included various abilities that the
Aksren, Yutilians, and Shal’rein females have to
this very day. The argument for such a reason was
the Empire wanted to “Keep a stable Empire by
ensuring mateship would never end, and emotions
would be calm and relaxed for all in turn.” Another
reason was to further help encourage the ability
to get pregnant. It apparently seemed to work.
Media, stories, and even Itrean movies all depicted
romance and sex scenes that could be comparable
to human films. While many Aksren didn’t think
like Jalgren, there were some that seemed to
understand his point. Even his daughter and future
empress would help push to keep gender equality
paramount.
After the empire had collapsed, many of
these trends and attitudes towards sex would
never really change. It had simply become an
accepted route for all future mateships to engage
in the same pattern. While some would claim that
there was no progression, there were no forms of
regression either. Gender equality would mostly
remain the same in the Era of Negotiations.
How Sex Changed in the T’rintar Clan and Zilik’s
Disease
After the Emphra War, the Itrean clans had
all practiced a form of cohesion, but there were
signs that the last fifty years, the T’rintar were the
most “radical” in accepting new ideas. This was
primarily for the fact that the clan allowed other
families of different species to live with them on
their planets. It was technically possible for an
Aksren to mate with a Yutilian, without fear of
much repression, although there were technical
problems. The backlash of past histories and blood
feuds could turn mixed mateship into a horrid one.
There would be an adoption of the name
“Golarren,” which is a rough slang term. T’rintar
society tends to look down upon the Golarren.
Some would call their possible mixed children
“freaks” or would be discriminated against based
on who they were. The term would later alter itself
to reflect not only upon those that were of mixed
blood but of the few that had any birth defects.
The concept of “Golarren,” has been a hot
topic in T’rintar clan society and even criticized by
UWA politicians and scholars. It is considered an
open practice of the T’rintar people to openly
brandish, ridicule, or discriminate against them
based on who they are. Some in the clan defend
the aspect as it allows to, in their words, “release
their anger and vent openly of their own
aggressions.” Others also clearly state that the
Aksren and Shal’rein clans don’t even have the
Golarren, but simply terminate any offspring that
turn out to be one. The fact is that interspecies sex
and romance is one that isn’t looked at too highly
by society even to this day. Despite this, there is a
lot of push for the other direction as well. To the
T’rintar politicians and supporters of mixed
species, the “Golarren are just the beginning. In
the end, we will all be one.” There have been
attempts to openly challenge and ensure equality
for the Golarren, even if the concept and ideals
last to this day.
Despite the issues of the Golarren, T’rintar
clan society has seen a rival of morale. The post-
Emphra Wars had seen a gradual recovery in not
only economics but of societal welfare. A “baby
boom” occurred in the late 2300s to 2310s, with
high birth rates that lasted all the way to 2330s.
This would naturally drop once the United Itrean
Empire or Republic had collapsed in on itself.
Media would reflect a form of contempt and
relaxed views on love while maintaining societal
norms.
The greatest and most significant impact is
that of Zilik’s Disease. It was reported as far back
as the mid 2339s when a few males had become
sick. Feverish symptoms had kicked in as they
immediately began to suffer organ shutdown
followed by death in a few days. There was no
cure, despite all the great efforts to help them.
Within a few months, all the males started to have
the same problem. It was identified to be a wide
mass epidemic and one that had been well
planned. Named after the Yutilian biologist, Zilik’s
was a deranged woman that had sexist ideas and
was looked at as an extreme misandrist. She was a
master in bioengineering. She had been crafting
her own disease that took her thirty years to
make. Designed to target the Y-chromosome, the
sickness would settle in and begin to destroy the
body rapidly. It was programmed that it could be
activated within a ten-year window. This would
allow the entire population to secretly be infected
with the disease before it would finally activate.
Even the most remote of locations had long been
infected when the Civil War broke out. By 2339, the
disease was unstoppable. Even if it wasn’t
designed to target females, they would still be the
carriers that last to this day.
The disease was absolutely catastrophic for
the Itrean societies. Within a two-week window,
the males were dying out. It was virtually
unstoppable. Females that even had male babies
were dying in the wombs or eggs. Any future
offspring there forth that would be male died.
Even attempts at genetic manipulation failed. Half
of the population was gone, and it would shut
down the economies immediately. The women
were left to pick up the pieces and continue on
without the males of their species. The “Great
Dying” is heralded as one of the worst events in
Itrean history in the last ten years. It even
resulted in a cease-fire as the clans debated about
continuing the wars or not.
Despite the incredible hardships, gender
equality had been at an all-time high. Women were
fully adept at doing the same duties that males
had done. Female soldiers were all but common in
battles, industrial jobs, and leadership roles. The
fact that still remained that males couldn’t be
born would only mean the inevitable. The Itreans
were facing extinction. Everything from cloning to
rapid forced evolution into asexual reproduction
had been considered as makeshift routes.
Eventually, both main ideas were turned
down as a new solution had been discovered. The
Ivon, or “Third Gender,” was created, and it
became the temporary solution to the bigger
problem. One-third of females would be surgically
altered to become male. They would have both
male and female parts and would be used to help
become future mates of the other females.
Technically, the Ivon is still looked at as female by
society (including most of UWA society as well) but
is also referred to as the Ivon.
The result of the Ivon was considered one of
the most significant violations in civil liberties in
recent Itrean society that far surpassed the issues
of the Golarren rights. Once it started in Yutilian
society, the Aksren and Shal’rein clans followed in
suit. Lotteries were made in which females of a
certain age would be forced to undergo surgery.
There were remarkably few, if any, exceptions to
the rule. The Ivon was then sometimes forced into
mateships or even “conditioned” to like females.
Morale in sex and mateship had crashed
dramatically as all the Itrean women had to
embrace the idea that in order to procreate and
have children, they would have to have sex with
other women. It was incredibly difficult, but it was
the only solution available. It is an unpopular
concept that is well accepted by all of the Itreans
as a whole. Mass wide protests and revolts were
put down with extreme prejudice as others knew
that there was no choice.
Regardless, the solution seemed to be
working. The birth rate, which had been
nonexistent for a year, started to report the first
series of births. Even if the children born alive
were female, the female species could continue
forth. With the Ivon solution implemented, Zilik,
who believed that she could stop future wars by
killing the males, failed at her task. The Civil Wars
continued, and the females continued to fight
against one another. The resulting last ten years
have been one that has echoed in Itrean media.
Morale has been low that is equally spread
between all clans. The previous ten years had
utterly failed in finding a permanent cure or
vaccine to Zilik’s disease.
It wouldn’t be until the discovery of the
alien race known as humanity that the Itreans had
a revelation in sex and relationships. Technically,
the idea of finding a male species of another alien
race was not the first thing that was on the
Itrean’s minds. If anything, the idea was
something that Ziliks preached while she was held
in prison and forced to work on a cure. According
to the scientists, “If another alien race, like us,
were to have males, it might be theoretically
possible to mate with them to create new
offspring.” It would take a few months before the
T’rintar clan had gotten curious as to the idea. In
reality, the Aksren and Shal’rein never even
considered the idea as the past horrifying
thoughts of the Emphra aliens loomed in
everybody’s minds.
When the T’rintar clan kidnapped the
colonists from Eutera, they were open to them
almost immediately about what was happening
and why they had done it. Discussions were
brought forth on why the Itreans had engaged in
such hostilities and that they were looking for
volunteers to engage in sexual experiments. In
reality, there was no harm brought forth to the
other prisoners, and they were well treated. The
clan made promises that if the experiments were a
success, they would negotiate with the UWA to
have them returned and even rebuild the damages
brought to the colony. Three individuals of the
thousand, two men and one woman, willingly
agreed to have direct relationships, while others
decided to offer their bodies for basic testing
purposes.
Right from the start, the experiments had
proved fruitful. Not only did the human males
have the ability to produce Itrean sperm to
impregnate Itrean women, but they could
introduce a gene into the offspring. This gene
made Zilik’s Disease unable to target the Y-
chromosome, making it completely inert. Human
females had the broadest range of options (by
their choice), from being able to be impregnated
by an Ivon partner, having an egg altered in DNA,
or even being surgically altered to become a
human male to do the process. The first confirmed
human female experiment was done by Samantha,
a lesbian from Cebravis that moved to the colony.
She had taken up a Yutilian Ivon as a mate. All the
experiments would take some effort but proved to
be a complete success. Within eight months, the
first male child was born, completely free of the
disease.
The news was shattering to the T’rintar
clan. Humanity had the cure. It was paramount
that they join and create an alliance. Fifty years
ago, such a concept would have never occurred
but, the Itreans were desperate to find a method.
Even to use the term for “Golarren,” for mixed
children of human and Itreans is a punishable law
in their society because of the dire situation of
finding an alternative choice to becoming an Ivon.
Desperate to find an ally, the UWA made a
partnership alliance with the clan as a result. The
colonists of Eutera, with the exception of those
that wanted to stay with the Itreans, were all
returned safely.
Jackson Kelren in Experiment 23 was
the first human to successfully impregnate
an Itrean woman. Kelren lives with his wife
and child in T’rintar clan space to this day.
