The Aksren Clan Page 1
*Spoilers if you haven’t read past Gabatrix: The
First Peace arc*
“The Aksren are often looked at as a snobbish and
arrogant people at times. They believe that they
are better than others and have the most to fight
the other clans. The fact is…..they’re correct.” A
Shal’rein Historian.
The history of the Aksren people is one of
surprising stability. Unlike the other clans, the
short-statured race had managed to endure the
countless fighting and wars that the other Itrean
clans brought to them. The end result was that
they would end up being the more viable
combative and strong of the clan species. Most of
the reasoning was because that the Aksren knew
economics and were long-term thinkers. Even as
far as the era of millions of years ago, there were
whispered stories of how the Aksren would use
the proper mixture of negotiations at the correct
times, bring war when it would suit them best,
and use their fleets to achieve victory. Their
ancient empires were hallmarks of this successful
line that many Itreans can’t ignore.
Humanity has easily identified the Aksren
as the descendants of the Oviraptors of former
Earth. Their easily distinguishable nose and head
crests are a dead giveaway, with them standing at
about four feet in height with some standing five
feet and rarely the height of an average human
being. They usually have reddish-brown, tan,
orange, or yellowish scale skin with distinct red
nose crests with long tails. It is believed that they
might have had feathers long ago, but much of
this trait is now gone. Some feel that the idea of
calling them “the egg thieves” is also a fair
argument as well in reflecting their history but in
a mixed assumption. Despite the bitter hatred
that the other clans had for the Aksren, many
can’t argue that the clan has survived to one of
the three clan species today for a valid reason. In
fact, some claims that the Itreans are jealous of
the Aksren achievements is an accurate
statement.
While the Yutilians are often an easily
drawn comparison to the Aksren, many feel that
there are noticeable differences. Physical
appearances show them to generally lack
feathers. The Aksren personalities are slightly
different in that some appear to be snobbish,
aristocratic, and more capitalistic in nature. They
were more opportunistic and generally looked at
the things that would benefit the most over the
others. However, even as far as 500,000 years ago,
there were reports that some Itrean clans that
would manage to acquire Aksren economists
because of their incredible skills at the job. When
the clans became more and more racist, these
economists were expelled, which helped lead to
some of the civilizations' downfall. Meanwhile, the
Aksren would still hold their own quite well at
times. They would have so much in resources that
even their most ancient of warships could be built
in masse. Even if they weren’t viable warships,
they could be built in such huge numbers that
they could still overwhelm the enemy fleets.
Of course, the Aksren hadn’t always been
successful. With such a proud and noble history
that they had, even they had their shortcomings.
At times, the Aksren had been poor negotiators
and would lose territory here and there. Mistakes
had been made during offensive campaigns that
could cost them dearly. Among one of the most
substantial mistakes was going to war with
Gesh’Ot clan. Greedy warlords easily believed that
the Gesh’Ot could be defeated or lose vast
amounts of their territory with a series of precise
victories. With three warlords that had incredible
and rich economies and slews of warships and
troops at their disposal, they decided to go and
attack the tiny short-statured people in an
isolated fashion. Eventually, the territories
conquered would be divided up. The fact was that
the Gesh’Ot were incredibly adept with their ship
designs and tactics. Even fighting outnumbered,
the Gesh’Ot were winning the battles. Their poison
dart guns laid waste to the Aksren troops that had
clearly thought they had immunities against on
the ground. It proved to be a long-awaited
disaster. After hundreds of years of warfare, all
but one of the warlords gave up. This final act of
defiance was made when the leader decided to
commission the Noo’dort clan to fight alongside
them. To their horrors, the Noo’dort and combined
Aksren assets overwhelmed the Gesh’Ot. Even if
the Gesh’Ot clan had been wiped out, the Aksren
never forgot the mistakes that were made by
themselves and their allies.
The fact was that the lack of unity never
really helped the Aksren clan at all. Splintered self-
operating empires were a constant in ancient
history. Much like the Shal’rein, the Aksren had
infighting that slowed down their advancements.
However, many could argue that the Aksren
fought each other less and relied more on trade
negotiation to worm out of a fight. It was believed
that if the Aksren could work in cohesion, they
could singlehandedly overpower the other clan
species. The Yutilians, Shal’rein, Alara’jal, and
Palierans fared no better, but the Aksren were
slowly gaining the advantage by 31,000 years ago.
It was slow and subtle, but the clan was winning
the race with each victory and asset that they
could acquire.
The Empire of Yol’ikren was an early and
successful empire that existed 100,000 years ago.
It would ultimately corner a 1/3 of Aksren
territories altogether. Under Yol’kren’s reign, he
managed to obliterate the Noo’dort clan seeing
them as a dangerous enemy. It would help seal
easy negotiations with other clans and clan
species. The eventual success was that it led to
the reorganization of the Empire of Jalgren 70,000
years later.
Ultimately, a great Aksren warlord of
Jalgren foresaw that complete domination of the
Itrean clans could be achieved and amazingly
accomplished it. Jalgren had access to the greatest
shipyards of the time and was a masterful ship
designer. Working with the people under him, he
would forge one of the more innovative fleets.
Careful negotiation of the other Aksren empires
and careful use of money and resources would
allow him to corner an incredible alliance of all the
Aksren empires. It would take Jalgren over ninety
years of fighting as clan after clan would fall.
While the Emperor would be credited for
committing a few atrocities here and there, many
considered the power-hungry emperor actually to
be a kind and shrewd character. When he
overpowered the other Itrean fleets, he never
wanted to exterminate them but simply add to his
“Growing economy.” This form of mercy and
compassion on his part actually saved the
Yutilians and Shal’rein from going extinct while
prolonging the eventual extinction of the
Palierans and Alara’jal at the same time. Within
the near end of his life, Jalgren would establish his
great empire. The empire, under his name, would
rule for 20,000 years of Itrean history and be the
most successful to ever exist. It would lead to
some of the most technological innovations to be
brought forth.
For the Aksren people, this was the golden
age. Free access to anywhere, free trade, nothing
but ever-expanding economies. The Aksren people
tripled in population, that the Empire had to place
limits on population growth. It was actually one of
the peaceful eras for the Itreans and gave rise to
Aksren supremacy and superiority. It is not often a
surprise that the stereotype of the snobbish
Aksren actually came from this time. Many human
historians even compared the Empire of Jalgren to
the rise of the Roman Empire on Earth. The
population even acted in a similar manner and
style.
But such a thing did come at a cost.
Freedom was all but dissolved for the replacement
of order. While there were efforts to treat the
other clan species with respect, long-term hatred
and racism sometimes got the better of the
Aksren. At the same time, portions of the Aksren
were also held down by their own Empire.
Contrary to belief, not all Aksren agreed to have
an over shining Empire to rule them all.
Compassion did exist, and cultures splintered. It
would take 20,000 years for it to happen, but
eventually, the Rototrein Rebellion would see an
end to it. It is said that the Aksren people
generally were happy to see the empire come to
an end. Its decadence had worn the clan species
out. Once the other clan species began to
overpower the Imperial fleets, splintering, Aksren
began to build up their own fleets and launch
attacks to bring down the Empire while joining up
with the Rebellion.
Even with the fall of the Empire, the Aksren
still had a minor upper hand with the other clan
species. While it was true that splintered empires
would continue to exist for some time, there was
generally more cohesion. As the Yutilians had
created soft alliances with their kingdoms, the
Aksren would follow suit. Eventually, by the time
it hit 10,000 years ago, the clan species were all
but united by race. For Aksren historians, they did
believe that not enough was done after the
collapse of the Empire as the other clan species
began to rebuild their fleets and try to reclaim
“lost territories,” but arguments also suggest that
the splintering Empire also made agreements to
give some places back in hopes of peace. It was a
mixed era of violence as the other clan species
began to fight back harder and harder. Fleets were
being brought in masse, and the Aksren were
lackluster to do anything about it.
This wasn’t to say that the Aksren clan
really lost too much during post-imperialism. It
was true that they weren’t winning much, but
they managed to still hold onto much of their
worlds while the other clans were trying to catch
up to their original pre-Imperial strength. Much of
their status of today is because they simply kept
doing the same thing that they were doing 11,000
years, and that was to trade, keep internal strife
down, negotiate, and fight when needed. Other
clan historians have argued that the Aksren are
more prone to violence, but there isn’t enough
evidence to completely suggest this.
When the Era of Negotiations had begun,
the Aksren were in the best position. Their
economies were very stable, and they had the
highest amount of industrial might. Theoretically,
the Aksren, even in a balanced state with the
Yutilians and Shal’rein, were generally the best
overall. They had more ships and more equipment.
Their population was generally the highest, and
they had access to the best assets and planets.
When the Alara’jal fell, the Aksren obtained their
star fortress and now had two in their possession,
but this didn’t always put them in the most
vantage state. In war, Aksren tactics were
appalling bad at times. Even if they had the
resources to launch epically huge campaigns, the
losses they took were just as enormous. It was
described by some commanders at the time that
“The Aksren ships were incredible, the people
fearless, and their war leaders…..dullards.” While
some military commanders were trying their best,
other leaders made nothing but mistakes
sacrificing vessels for the sake of personal glory.
In the end, the Aksren would always be more on
the offense but usually fail in doing it. Post-
Imperial supremacy still existed in the hearts of
many of the Aksren. They felt better than the
others even if they didn’t succeed right in front of
them.
This would be further highlighted when the
Emphra were discovered. Arrogantly, the Aksren
blamed everyone but themselves, but at the same
time, struggled to hold their own. Technically, the
Aksren were still at an advantageous point as they
used their higher resources to build exorbitant
amounts of ships to combat the menace, but there
were problems. The fact was, the Emphra were
still winning the war. When the Yutilians and
Shal’rein clans asked to ally with them in repelling
the Emphra, many of the Aksren still stubbornly
refused. Regardless, some could see that the
Emphra couldn’t be stopped. Even if they somehow
held out on their own, if the Yutilians and Shal’rein
fell, they would be next. It wasn’t necessarily
pride, but realization as planet after planet fell to
the alien invasion. Eventually, a series of slow
treaties came out as the Aksren agreed to the
alliance, but it was difficult and unsteady in the
beginning years. Ultimately, the Aksren clan and
others prevailed against the Emphra.
It is often said that the Aksren were the
first to denounce the United Itrean government
after the Emphra War ended. It is true that they
were the first ones to leave, but there is some
discrepancy on this, especially when human
scholars have begun to really evaluate the system
and its strengths and flaws. The actual reality was
that it was true that the Aksren had the least to
gain when it came to a united system of peace. To
the people, the unity in the post-war Emphra years
was more of a nuisance, but some actually felt
that it would work too. Not all of the Itreans
willingly side with a singular general opinion. Just
like human society, there are variations in beliefs.
In 2330, the Aksren politicians did try to offer
some incentives to try to alter the government to
work. Many, including the Yutilians and Shal’rein
did see that the system wasn’t working. According
to a Shal’rein historian, “The Aksren could see that
the United Itrean Empire was little more a failure
in the making. Some cared to keep it going, and
some didn’t. The ones that tried to the most were
sadly the ones that were dismissed first.” A
Yutilian historian would counter the argument
that “The Aksren selfishly took their own beliefs
at heart. As soon as the United Itrean Republic fell
weak, they got up and walked out.” To sources
inside the Aksren clan, the opinions are mixed.
Generally, it remains as it is as civil war would
break out.
Aksren Clan Flag Emblem
The Aksren of today look nothing like their
descendants, but some things did survive in their
evolution. Their recognizable nose and head
crests and sharp beaks are a common feature.
