The Xetregren Mark 2793 Class Defense Battleship

*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The First Peace arc* “The Viper class is a vessel that we will most likely never see. However, many of us hope that we will never see it,” Fleet Admiral Annika, 2349 AD. The lesser-known alternative battleship of the Aksren clan is one that most UHN analysts easily disregard. However, their legacy is one of importance. They still fill up the ranks of the Aksren clan fleets. It’s one that is still just as dangerous as the Italx class. In the home defense fleets, they serve as a wonderfully viable combat platform. Its legacy is one that follows the ancient historical roots of Emperor Jalgren’s ingenuity in spaceship design and combat. Design It’s no surprise that the Aksren clan have a variety of warship designs. Among one of them is the ancient but venerable Xetregren class battleships. The warships were the famed design from Emperor Jalgren and saw very little changes in the last thirty thousand years. In recent years, the Xetregren, or the “Viper” class, has instead seen competing against the newer warships from the Aksren. Seeing battles as far as the Emphra Wars, it wasn’t until the introduction of the Ikra class Battleships that the Xetregren was ceased in production. Regardless, much like many of the ancient warships of the pre-Emphra wars, many of the former warships are seeing a reawakening in construction. New variants are beginning to be used more and more often in the Itrean Civil War. The need for a variant warship to remain at home was needed. Much like the Dixik, the Aksren decided to revisit the ancient design and improve upon it. This included the hybrid light dual railgun and particle beam turret. This replaces the former Mark 2792 heavy particle beam design. The side- mounted torpedo launcher pods had been replaced with a huge scatterpack missile launcher array. UHN analysts often see comparisons of the current Xetregren to that of the ancient seafaring World War 2 rocket launcher transports that would shovel enormous amounts of rockets or tiny munitions against beachhead targets. Technically, the scatterpack missiles only do so much damage, but there are so many that can be deployed at once that they can easily overwhelm any form of defense. The Xetregren can sometimes be compared to the T’rintar clan Dixik class, but it carries slightly less guided munitions in exchange for the light railgun armament. This still allows the vessel to be versatile while remaining in the back lines. Technically, the Xetregren carries a lighter CIWS armament but makes up for it with a slew of lighter CIWS batteries.  History The Xetregren was a welcome sight among the Aksren Emphra War veterans. The proud warship is majestic to some, but its large missile loadout and purpose were made clear. It would serve as a warship that would operate at home. This allowed the Italx to be used more in the frontlines. With a slow increase in production, the new mark 2793 would etch their way to planetary defense fleets. In reality, some Fleet Adjuncts were more than welcome to bring the occasional Xetregren into the attack fleets where they supposedly did well in combat against the T’rintar and Shal’rein clan fleets. When kept in the rear front lines, their vast salvos of scatterpack missiles had more effect than the lesser number of missiles tossed by the Siv class scouts. At home, the vast array of missiles can be quickly and easily restocked at the port bases.  While the Xetregren would never be built to the exorbitant numbers as the Italx class, this didn’t stop the recently reintroduced warship from making up 10 to 15% of the battleship fleets in 2349. They weren’t seen at the siege of Cipra, but there was no doubt that it may be a matter of time before the UHN would eventually encounter one. Rumors do persist in the T’rintar clan intelligence network that the Aksren Empress Itsis has a personal guard fleet of the elite royal guard. This guard unit utilizes a modified series of Xetregrens that carry slight improvements over the original variants. Shaded in black and red, the color is that of raw terror to any enemy fleet unit that intends to assassinate the Empress.
Guard Ships of the Aksren Empress Itsis have the darker red and black stripes mounted on their sides. They carry twin medium railgun turrets along with additional power units, elite trained crews, and additional highly experimental equipment.
