Ovashi, Capital of the Empire of Gwin
*Spoilers if you haven’t read Gabatrix: The First
Peace*
“There are many worlds that belong to
Aksren clan control. Of the second most
important world to them, Ovashi usually stands
out.” Yutilian Adjunct Kare’ve.
The Aksren clan comprises multiple worlds
and empires. Even with the Jalgren legacy lost,
this hasn’t stopped the clan from controlling a
vast amount of the galaxy. The fractured empires
but held unity still consisted of many fortress
worlds. Ovashi and Renlar are just one of the
many examples of this concept.
History
The history of the Empire of Gwin is one that
is usually considered non-important or
uninteresting by most Itrean scholars, at least
until recently. Originally as far as 130,000 years
ago, there were six major Aksren empires. Two of
these empires would unite to fortify what would
become the Empire of Yol’ikren. Before the unity
of those two empires, the Aksren Empire of Gwin
was only a third-place of the most vital and most
influential. Gwin’s history and legacy consisted of
at least four separate micro empires that
eventually solidified into one as far as 150,000
years ago during the age of “Old Space.”
During the Age of Old Space, it was known
that Gwin was never a flourishing establishment.
Its ability to take care of its own worlds was
worse than most empires or other Itrean clan
species. Environmental destruction and war
would render many of the Old Space territories
inert or hostile to Itrean life. Human scholars
often compared the ancient Gwin to that of “20th-
century oil tycoons that disregarded the
environment.” This forced the people to move to
new worlds over and over again. The Empire of
Gwin mimicked many Aksren empires of the time
period, but they would be one of the last to
recognize that the population wanted stability.
Within 90,000 years ago, the Empire of Gwin
knew that it needed to find a single solitary world
to settle upon. They would get their wish when
they had found the world that they would name
Ovashi. The concept of Ovashi was founded by
Emperor Gi’ok the Wise. Gi’ok was no fool when it
came to environmentalism. When he colonized
the world of Ovashi, he made it his goal to create
a central city world. Gi’ok often ignored the
attempts made by corporate business leaders
that wanted to strip mine the lush world into
nothing. Instead, the emperor of Gwin made it his
goal to create a populous world where shipping
would be crucial to survival.
Even though Gi’ok would never make it to
see all of his dreams, many of the Gwin were in
support of the leader’s actions. Two great pole
shipyards were constructed in tandem. Farming
was prioritized, and various efforts in
technological research were allocated. By 70,000
years ago, Ovahsi would serve as a central core
world for the Aksren clan. Even though Renlar had
already existed, many saw the vital trade port
that Ovashi had become.
Ovashi is located in a K-Type star system. It
is the 2nd planet closest to its star and is actually
tidally locked. Four gas giants encircle the star.
The tidally locked status causes one side always
to face the source of light, keeping the other side
in darkness. Its two twin shipbuilding platforms
named “Vis’x’loc” and “Vis’g’ip” serve as backups
to one another in case one platform is taken out.
While it is in many ways looked at as a sister rival
planet to Kre’ *Click* Uio, Ovashi’s overall ship
manufacturing capabilities are slightly less than
the Yutilian counterpart.
The Empire of Gwin always served as a
somewhat rival to the Empire of Yol’ikren. This
was before the advent of a “united” Aksren clan.
Ovashi served as a minor competitor in
shipbuilding rights and manufacturing warships.
While Yol’ikren was gaining ground and influence
with other empires, Gwin still served as a
nuisance to the expansion gains made by the
domineering empire.
By the age of Jalgren, Ovashi’s history would
become better renowned for resisting the great
emperor. It was often argued that “Kre *Click* Uio
was a priority target under Jalgren, but the
emperor needed to take Ovashi first to help push
his war machine. Jalgren did his best to encourage
peaceful relations, but it proved obvious that
Gwin was going to resist him. The emperor was
careful during his beginning years. Much like Kre’
Uio, Ovashi held vital manufacturing centers that
needed to remain intact. There is some argument
that Jalgren suffered the most losses in the
beginning. While he did well in seizing some
Shal’rein and Alara’jal worlds, the first significant
offenses against Ovashi proved to be failures.
What was worse was that the defeats pushed
setbacks against Jalgren’s intentions of uniting
the Aksren empires under his rule.
However, Renlar and the growing Empire of
Jalgren still managed to overcome much of the
Ovashi resistance. At the time, little believed
Jalgren was telling the truth in wanting a peaceful
outcome. Jalgren hungered to conquer Ovashi, but
when his forces overpowered the fleet, he was
met with the self-destruction of the southern
shipyard of “Vis’g’ip.” He was forced to consider
his option and ultimately came up with the
solution. “If the Gwin are that determined to
knock themselves out of power, then so be it. The
other choice is to keep their rights as the vital
shipyard.” He delivered the message, but the
Gwin ignored him.
The Siege of Ovashi resulted in enormous
damage to the ship production centers. However,
the destruction caused was one that quickly
undermined the leadership of the planet. Most of
the economy had been shut down. When the
world called for help, little help came to them.
Some portions of the planet had faced starvation
as Jalgren carefully targeted power generation
facilities. Within a month, Ovashi and its
population remained defiant. It was said that the
victory ultimately came down to a friend of
Jalgren that eventually assassinated the Emperor
of Gwin. The friend that was already Gwinese
would ultimately lead a small coup onto Ovashi.
Her victory would secure her as the Empress of
Gwin and become a puppet state to serve under
Jalgren’s rule.
Despite the loss of some of Jalgren’s fleets,
Jalgren was true to his word. Seizing Gwin had
sent a message to the other empires of the clan
species that the emperor was merciful. Jalgren
even spent time ensuring that enough food was
shipped to remote areas of Ovashi, including
efforts to repair the infrastructure. With the
combined rumors tied to the fact that Jalgren was
seeking cooperation, many of the other smaller
empires would ultimately agree to serve under
him. Much like the seizing of Kre *click* Uio
several years later, Ovashi proved just as
important in convincing the Aksren clan that
Jalgren was seeking to unite the Aksren clan
under one banner. However, it is often blamed
that Gwin had done an excellent job in alienating
the other Aksren empires.
During the Empire of Jalgren, the great
emperor made it a priority to rebuild the great
shipyards. The names would be kept, and the
industry would be restored to full production.
Many of the Ovashi population had grown to
enjoy the great empire as it managed to put
Ovashi as one of the more essential worlds for the
Aksren clan. It’s not surprising that statues of
Jalgren still persist to this day, even if he was a
conqueror. Historians claimed that “The Gwin
people felt inclined to completely support Jalgren
in the next hundred years.” However, it would
take another 1,000 years before the full
operational capability of Ovashi would be
restored.
As the Empire of Jalgren was threatening to
fall apart in 20,000 years, Ovashi was faced with
some hard choices. It’s no surprise that the
population was divided. Unlike Renlar that would
remain the most significant factor in Aksren
politics, some of the people were not interested
in fighting for the rebellion, while others sought
loyalty to the dying empire. However, during the
Rototrein Rebellion, two failed uprisings were
shut down in the most horrendous and violent
ways possible. It was unlikely that Ovashi would
ever surrender to the rebels. Much like Renlar,
Ovashi was a stronghold for the loyalists. It would
prove to plague the rebellion to the bitter end.
However, much like Kre *click* Uio, Ovashi
was still a priority target. The imperial forces
used the shipyards to the fullest extent, even if
the money to do it was dwindling rapidly. As
world after world would slowly fall to the
Rebellion, Ovashi’s regime would overtax and
wipe out the economy to maintain the war
machine. Rototrein did consider the aspect of
eventually launching a siege onto the planet, but
the defenses were too strong to mount one. It
would take near the end of the war when the
imperial forces were on the run. The planet
simply exhausted its supply of money, even
forcing its own people into slavery and enslaved
conscription (non-paid conscripts) to keep the
fight going. When rebel forces arrived by the end
of the war, much of the fleet rebelled against the
regime. They surrendered to the rebels without a
fight.
The loss of Ovashi would be the final blow to
the former Empire of Jalgren. Renlar knew that
they would be next in the rebellion even if they
could hold a sizeable defense almost indefinitely.
The Empress of Renlar finally declared the war to
be over and accepted the terms as established by
Rototrein. The empire fractured into pieces, and
the clan species' autonomy and sovereignty
would be fully restored.
With the end of the Rototrein Rebellion, the
Empire of Gwin would be restored, although its
former glory days were somewhat hampered.
While its shipyards were virtually left intact, it
would take hundreds of years to regain its
political infrastructure. Gwin would instead
mount a series of minor offenses to reclaim any
lost territories before the creation of the Empire
of Jalgren. Even 10,000 years ago, Renlar remained
the solid capital world of the Aksren clan. Ovashi
would instead have to play a slow game of
recovery.
By 9,500 years ago, however, the planet
would receive a break that it badly needed. The
Zix’Tral’Tren or “Aksren Empires Alliance Pact”
would be signed. Zix’Tral’Tren is considered to be
an odd version of an Itrean NATO by 20th and 21st
century Earth when viewed by current human
scholars. The pact allowed the Aksren Empires of
Gwin, Salre’po, and Nirk’on to have military
cooperation together. Its purpose was to offer a
united resistance if Renlar, now named the
Empire of Itsis, were to relaunch a new offense to
conquer and unite the Aksren empires again
under their force. Theoretically, the pact was
more of an agreement on paper to discourage
offenses against one another. If Gwin, Salre’po,
and Nirk’on were ever to be assaulted by the
Empire of Itsis, their forces would come to defend
one another. However, it was unknown if the pact
would have been enough to stop an invasion
entirely or if the empires would live up to their
end of the agreement.
Ultimately, the pact did have an important
role on Ovashi. The planet was declared the
capital world of the Zix’Tral’Tren. The planet
would be used to manufacture a new series of
Aksren warships that all three empires could use
regularly. The economy would further improve as
trade dramatically increased as well. Although, it
was never the goal of Ovashi to resist against
Renlar, as intergalactic trade had ensured that
war between the Aksren empires would be
pointless. Much like the Yutilian Kingdoms that
had similar pacts, the Aksren clan lost all interest
in fighting amongst itself.
Ovashi would remain a quiet world of
stability for the Aksren clan for much of the last
10,000 years. While there would be various
incursions from the other clan species, Ovashi
remained firmly intact. Instead, its shipyards
would continue to help in the manufacture of the
modern Aksren warships that were used almost
all the way to the 24th century.
However, it would be the Emphra War that
would prove to be utterly devastating for Ovashi.
It seemed that the Emphra had chosen the planet
as one of the prime targets of their invasions. Up
to three attacks would occur sometime in the
early years. The third invasion in 2283 would
result in the defeat of Ovashi. By then, up to 2/3
of the population had been evacuated as the
second invasion nearly wiped out the defense
forces that were in orbit. This greatly weakened
the Empire of Gwin in the war effort. With the
third invasion, the forces had to declare the
planet lost. Much of the shipyards were scuttled.
However, it was learned that the Emphra were
using the population of Itrean husks to repair and
render the two shipyards operational. The Emphra
would then start to build, launch, and modify
abominations of vessels to launch further
assaults onto other Itrean worlds.
It would take until 2296 that the united clans
would launch a major counteroffensive onto
Oyahsi. It would take another year before the
campaign resulted in success. By then, much of
the planet had been devastated, the ecology
destroyed and having to clean the dead. Ovashi
was the last stronghold of the Emphra, although,
by then, the Itreans were systematically wiping
out the Emphra fleets and their major bases of
operation.
The impact of the Emphra War was felt
heavy on Ovashi and the Aksren clan. Some of the
Aksren refuges never returned and stayed in
Yutilian space to further be incorporated into the
now T’rintar clan. However, the Aksren clan did
devote an enormous amount of resources to
begin rebuilding the planet. Ovashi was rumored
to be a political and public relations move on the
part of the Empire of Itsis. From most outside
scholarly sources, it appeared to work and
deepened the ties between Itsis and Gwin. The
other empires furthered their resources to rebuild
and reconstruct the great shipyards. Once the
planet was deemed safe to resettle in 2305, the
population was determined to make Ovashi the
beacon of hope against evil. In 2336, the two
shipyards had been made fully operational again.
However, the lingering horrors of the
Emphra War and the combined events of Zilik’s
Disease and the Itrean Civil War have put Ovashi
into a political quagmire. When humanity was
discovered in 2349, the Aksren clan, under the
Empire of Itsis’s opinions, regarded them as a
genuine threat. Ovashi, on the surface, quickly
pledged its support to Itsis, although the
population has been mostly indifferent. Much of
the fighting strength of Gwin has been sapped.
The desire to continue on years of bloodshed has
dwindled. While Ovashi continues to fight, its
blind support for Itsis seems more superficial.
