The Olympia Class Super Dreadnought
*Spoilers if you haven’t read Gabatrix: Minerva*
"We've built these vessels in the sole
defense of New Olympia. They will never be used
in combat," Fleet Admiral Fumi Yuki, Early 2349
AD.
Of the many warships of the UHN, the
Olympia class is one of the most unusual designs
ever to be created. As a result, many can question
their true purpose in combat. Some view them as
overexuberant warships, too expensive and
cumbersome to be used in battle. Others,
however, see it differently. Only recently has
there been an actual reveal of the power of these
vessels. Some even go as far as to claim that the
technology that is in these ships reaches beyond
comprehension. However, its true legacy is that it
ultimately reflects the characteristics and
personality of the mysterious colony of New
Olympia.
Design
The design history of the Olympia class is
almost an outright mystery, and all data
pertaining to its creation is what is provided by
New Olympia sources. The history of the design
undoubtedly comes from the original Lunaran Ark
that was used by the Lunaran religion to move
and ferry its people to what became the colony of
New Olympia. The Ark, now named the UHN
Osiris, is more or less a glorified transport vessel
that is never used and only serves as a makeshift
command base. It's only known for its rather
monstrous size and nothing more. According to
some conspiracy theories, the Osiris is supposed
to be more than it seems, but only relevant data
depicts the ship as a simple large transport and
nothing more.
However, the creation of New Olympia
would usher the shock and surprise to many that
the Lunarans had changed their identity.
Somewhere between the 20 to 25 years of its
founding, the planet had established an internal
shipyard and built 12 enormous warships. How
the resources were obtained and the facilities
needed to construct such vessels were unknown.
Upon the establishment of the United Human
Navy, the New Olympians agreed to have their
warships made a part of the UWA military ship
registry. However, it was argued that the
warships would only be in use as part of the New
Olympian defense force.
To many of the UWA, New Olympia was not
well known, especially by the end of the 23rd
century. For many of the early command
structures of the UHN of the other planets, the
initial design of the Olympia class was questioned
in value. While the warship is quite large, being
over twice the size of most UHN battleships, they
lack much in armament. According to New
Olympian sources, the ship only carries a single,
dual heavy railgun turret. It is mounted on a
massive gimble turret, but the guns can only
swivel to 240 degrees on a two-dimensional plane.
This would have to force the ship to alter its
heading and direction constantly when engaging
enemy forces. While the railguns are very
powerful, hypervelocity tungsten shells can still
be dodged from moderate to extreme ranges. This
forces the Olympia class to get very close to its
target in order to be effective, especially when
guided munitions can rule the battles in space.
The lack of any other weapons negates the
purpose of having an oversized vessel, even as a
gun platform. The Olympia class is useless as a
pirate or interdiction vessel, especially in the
Paloran asteroid belt.
The design of the Olympia class does have
some other odd features. Among one of these
features is the massive array network that lies
behind the enormous turret. According to New
Olympian sources, the network is supposed to be
a solar sail array system. They can be deployed to
help provide power and help navigate the ship in
emergencies. Even then, the need for such
equipment is cumbersome to have on such large
vessels and consumes much of the space
allocated for it. Much like the UHN Osiris, the New
Olympian features of the bulbous structure near
the rear mid-section have been adopted. The
system was theorized as the main power plant.
However, it is clearly evident that the massive
dreadnoughts lack a rotating centripetal ring.
Thus, artificial gravity can't be generated. Any
other information on the Olympia class is
unknown, and while the UHN has made efforts to
learn more about the ships, little information is
provided. Some have speculated that the UHN is
purposely classifying secret information
pertaining to the vessel. Others in the command
structure consider the Olympia class as an overly
expensive warship or completely impractical in
battle.
History
Much like the early days of the UHN, the
Olympia class was an adopted set of vessels that
were incorporated into the UWA military. This
allowed the New Olympians to establish their
own set of rules. For one, no other military
personnel from outside colonies were allowed to
set foot on Olympian-class warships. With the
established fact that the super dreadnoughts
were impractical, many of the UHN saw very little
value in the warships. Supposedly, since they
were created, none of the dreadnoughts ever left
orbit of New Olympia, serving as "The Great
White Fleet" and the colony's self-defense force.
Each of the vessels was named after the gods of
former Earth. When the UHN conducted their
exploratory missions in deep space, none of the
New Olympian dreadnoughts were used.
The Great White Fleet would remain as they
were as far as 2349. By then, most UHN analysts
claimed that the ancient dreadnoughts were so
old that most were in a semi-commissioned
status. There are rumors that the New Olympians
are working on a new heavy warship that is called
the Vishnu Class Super Dreadnought. However,
the discovery of the Itreans in early 2349 would
change the value of the original warships. A hotly
debated topic had arisen in the year: the desire to
move New Olympian warships to help enforce and
provide assistance to the outer colonies of the
UWA. Much to the dismay of the UWA, the New
Olympians refused to move the Olympia super
dreadnoughts anywhere and kept them in their
home system. While the true value was still
questioned in the UHN if the New Olympian
warships could genuinely hold their own in
combat, desperation was a rising dilemma.
Locations such as Cipra were in danger of being
captured, and Itrean forces had already sacked
Eutera. Fleet Admiral Annika had said it best: "The
New Olympians still shared a responsibility to
defend our systems as we did with their system."
Eventually, New Olympia announced that
they were staying out of the conflict. Their ships
wouldn't leave orbit, and they would engage in a
defensive war only. The dreadnoughts would
continue to provide a system defense, and UHN
vessels were allowed to enter New Olympian
space, but any offensive operations utilizing the
ships were futile.

Peace*
The time period by the end of the year 2349
was grim for much of the UHN. The military force
was being stretched too thin. Two colonies had
been lost, and defeat was inevitable. However,
despite the overall situation, there were a set of
victories before the onset of peace with the
T'rintar clan. Two unknown wins were declared
over New Olympia when the Shal'rein clan
attacked the colony. Much of the information was
provided by New Olympia. However, much
mystery remains as to how it occurred. The first
battle occurred with over 40 warships, and the
next one was with 100. Both Shal'rein fleets were
utterly destroyed without the loss of a single
Olympia dreadnought.
The UHN made an inquiry to figure out how
the New Olympians had accomplished this.
However, with the war focused on the internal
core worlds of the UWA, very few answers were
obtained. The few UHN higher chain of staff
commended New Olympia on achieving such a
victory, but others quietly claimed that it might
have been forged news. The goal was to create
"false victories" as a form of propaganda victory.
The argument was further pressed and noted by
Fleet Admiral Annika as stated: "We applaud the
New Olympian victories. However, little can be
done at this time to evaluate the potential that
the colony has achieved. Even against sheer
numbers, without taking damage and wiping out
the enemy is simply impossible without some
form of casualties."
However, an Olympia class Dreadnought
would gain fame by the end of the year when
Fleet Admiral Fumi Yuki was swayed to help the
UHN/T'rintar clan peace delegation reach Earth.
At the time period, the chance for peace was
absolutely critical. In order for the talks to be
concluded and end in a positive direction, the
ambassadors had to see Earth for the peace
treaty to be ratified. However, the "Atra," the
ambassador's ship, was considered an enemy
vessel and would likely have been shot down by
the UHN defenses. They were denied entry to the
Sol system. Fumi Yuki was sympathetic enough
that she would use her warship as an escort ship
for the delegates. Using the sheer size of the
warship, the super dreadnought would help
provide cover for the ambassadors until the UWA
overrode the commands of the UHN chain of
command. It would be the only time that an
Olympian super dreadnought would ever visit the
Sol system and play a small role in achieving
peace with one of the clans.

Wave*
The Olympia class dreadnoughts would once
again achieve a new level of spotlight six months
after the ratification of the UWA/T'rintar clan
partnership treaty. When Aphadus was attacked,
the Shal'rein clan claimed responsibility for it.
However, it was later verified that a defection
had taken place onboard the Shal'rein Assault
Carrier Garja. Shortly after the attack, the
Adjunct, by the name of Shira, had turned on her
own people to return one of the kidnapped people
of Aphadus back to the UWA.
According to Shira, the safest route for her
was to jump to New Olympia. Under her
suspicions, she believed that the New Olympians
could adequately repel any Itrean attack. From
her sources, her assumption had proven correct
when an enemy dreadnought was closing in on
the Garja. When she jumped to New Olympia, the
defense fleet responded to her call for help. In a
spectacular and somewhat unbelievable event, a
single Olympian dreadnought destroyed the
enemy Shal'rein pursuers with a single shot of
their cannon. The claim of some sort of "energy
weapon" was quickly denounced as ludicrous. Yet,
documented evidence from the Garja has been
presented that the New Olympians do have
access to powerful and super-advanced
technologies. The Olympia class Super
Dreadnought is far more than just a mobile
railgun platform but possessing a cannon that can
vaporize enemy ships with ease.
Needless to say, the event has popularized
the supposedly antiquated warships of New
Olympia. UHN inquiries still report little to no
information on how the New Olympians obtained
such technologies. Fleet Admiral Fumi Yuki's
comments have been all but mute whenever the
dreadnoughts are called into question. What is
known is that some still question if the warships
are legitimate or if the video evidence is
fabricated. What is known is that the possibility
of two Shal'rein fleets being destroyed in late
2349 might have been true….
