The Oga’KrenKren Mark 123 Class Light Assault

Carrier

“Everywhere and anywhere. Everyone has an Oga’KrenKren,” Adjunct Dwiop’Goo, 2272.  There is no doubt that the core of every Aksren clan assault is an Oga’krenkren. Much like the T’rintar N’Jips, the Oga’KrenKren is one that will remain in the Aksren clan past, present, and future. They would be the scourge of Cipra and could ruin anyone’s day when they showed up.     Design Of the three current Aksren clan assault ships, the Oga’krenkren is easily the most well- known. Its history is well-recorded, and it has served adequately well in any Aksren assault. The Oga’krenkren, or “Hammer Crest,” had formed part of the early assault fleets after the dissolution of the Jalgren Empire. With the military partnership of the Aksren clan, it was decided to introduce a warship that all five of the major empires could easily operate and manufacture in large numbers. The Oga’krenkren are considered to be much like the Jip and N’jip Light Assault Carriers utilized by the T’rintar and former Yutilian clan. It is an atmospheric entry warship fitted with fighter aircraft launch tubes. It is also fitted with a chin- mounted heavy cannon or light railgun, mortar launcher, and missile tubes to bombard and provide fire support in a landing assault. The main bridge is located on the top “crest” so as to serve as a lookout and operational center for returning aircraft. Out of all of the Itrean assault carriers, the Oga’krenkren are remarkably simple in design. It is established so they can be mass- produced in enormous numbers, being a jack of all trades and master of none. During the Emphra War, the earlier Oga’krenkrens would bare the frontlines of every Aksren clan assault. However, despite the glory days of the carrier’s usage, it would face its hardest decline in the formation of the United Itrean Republic. During this time period, recovering economies and political pressure put a hold on many of the assault ships. With the exception of the Qo class Assault Carrier, the Aksren clan didn’t have any other available assault ship until the inevitable collapse of the United government. However, with the advent of the upcoming Itrean Civil War, it didn’t take long before the specifications of the Oga’krenkren were pulled out again. Much like the prior warships, the light assault ships could be quickly manufactured. The Mark 123 is very similar to the Mark 122, with the only real exception being the ship carrying a light railgun turret instead of the particle beam cannon that was utilized in the Emphra War. Much like the many Itrean ships, many of the parts of the prior 122 could be interchanged and swapped. It didn’t take long before the go-ahead was made to begin mass production of the venerable transports. History Much like the prior past, the Oga’krenkren were rushed into service again. Their simplistic design and mass production quickly filled the assault fleets in 2339. However, the Qo was making a dent in the numbers as the prior armistice had placed more priority on producing the medium carriers. The Qo was, in most instances, a better design that was able to provide better firepower and be more of a dedicated carrier than the Oga’krenkren. However, that wasn’t the point, as the lighter assault carriers were designed as a stop-gap measure. The Oga’krenkrens are another example of the design philosophy of the Aksren clan, which is “If one isn’t enough, just build more.” By 2340, the Oga’krenkren were everywhere. They served as valiant gunships while serving as their dedicated role in delivering troops and vehicles onto the ground.   The ships are not without their weaknesses. They are generally frail against heavy ground fire and mostly designed to overwhelm the enemy positions from the air. Another profound weakness is the layout of the cramped flight deck, which forces Aksren pilots to land in small elevators to be recovered. There have been numerous incident reports of aircraft that would accidentally crash into other areas of the ship during recovery to the point that Aksren pilots would report, “If you can land on a tilon, you can land on an Oga’krenkren.” Recovery of their deployed craft is very slow, and it’s often reported that once the assault ships commence their assault, they should wait until the battle is over before recovering their aircraft and, if necessary, land on the ground if the fuel runs out. Another obvious weakness is the fact that the landing bay is limited in size. Only a few small attack vehicles can be carried, much like the Yutilian Jip and N’jips. The main bay doors are in the rear, where it forces the ship to either point its rear to the enemy to ensure quick deployment or turn and point to the front lines in order to adequately cover for its soldiers.  Regardless, many UHN analysts have commented about the utter amazement that the Itrean assault ships are capable of in their small frames. They are pure gunships, being able to ferry a small number of aircraft that they can deploy and recover. By 2342, the Oga’krenkren’s numbers easily surpassed the Qo class and served in every frontline battle. Spoilers for those that haven’t read Gabatrix: The Cipra Campaign The Oga’krenkren would be well noted in the Siege of Cipra as Aksren forces would utilize them to deploy countless soldiers, mechs, and vehicles onto the surface. Their ability to provide support fire quickly wiped out the remaining UHN marine forces that were present that hadn’t already evacuated the main capital. By 2350, many of the Oga’krenkrens were used as temporary garrisons at Cipra, leaving around five on the southern border of the city. At the time of Operation Desert Shrike, the Aksren clan mounted their ground defenses. During interviews with the captured Aksren leadership, the five remaining assault carriers were moved further south because they believed that the UHN Marine forces were going to encircle the Great Canyon from the southern direction, where the heavy dust storms were the strongest. Much to their surprise, the UHN forces emerged from the northern side. Upon the penetration of the UHN marines into the city capital, the Oga’krenkrens were quickly repowered and lifted off to mount a counteroffensive. However, as the light assault carriers were closing in on the city to eliminate the marines, the combined UHN/T’rintar forces from orbit began a heavy bombardment, shelling and obliterating the carriers before they could do any damage. With the final carriers wiped out, T’rintar/UHN forces in orbit, and Aksren elite warships abandoning the planet, the Aksren clan ground forces knew they were engaged in a battle they would ultimately lose in time. Believing that the humans would be merciful, surrendered. The Oga’krenkrens currently have a new version, the Mark 124, that has been introduced. Much like the prior variants, the carriers are there to show the Aksren have no intention of ever retiring these assault carriers. They will use them up, build more, and keep using them to how they see fit.
