Meretseger (NSFW)

Egypt has always been an excellent source of information when it comes to deities and mythical creatures. Among one is that of Meretseger, but who is she, and what importance does she play in modern-day times? The name Meretseger is the name for "She Who Loves Silence." She also goes by the name Merseger or Meretseger. She was believed to be worshipped in the Theban Necropolis sometime around the New Kingdom of Egypt. Her role was that of the patron of artisans and workers. Mostly she was the goddess of craftsmanship and artisans. Many accounts often say that the people were afraid of her even though she was considered merciful. She would be worshipped for her roles in trying to protect the people of the Theban Necropolis. She is often portrayed as a woman with a cobra head holding a was-scepter. Other depictions of her often show that of an outright cobra or snake that wears a head crown or modius with the solar disk. Some even portray her as a scorpion or a three-headed snake. Meretseger was often seen as a goddess that protected the tombs. Those that committed great sin could come to be given forgiveness. As Thebes would be discontinued in being used as a tomb, the cult that worshipped her would eventually leave and ultimately leave this lesser-known deity to be seemingly forgotten. The goddess has a hill named after her to this very day. What is known as Meretseger's hill is the highest point of the Theban Hills overlooking the Valley of the Kings. Her roles in the patron of arts typically put her with her deity's roles similar to Hathor, Ptah, or Thoth. In some occasions she is even misinterpreted as the Goddess Hathor. In Tales of Heroes, Meretseger is actually way more defined. She was the daughter of the Egyptian Goddess Reneutet, another well known cobra goddess that served in Egypt. Some believe that Sobek (Reneutet's husband) was the father. Still, it was not uncommon for Egyptian deities to sometimes take a human mate when the deities took breaks between their immortal marriages. Meretseger was just one of the many lesser- known gods that were lost to the history books as time progressed even though she served a purpose for the Egyptians. She was fierce but kind, a fitting role from her mother. Sadly, Meretseger did not survive the battle against Cataclysm like most of the deities on Earth. It was a common thing during the time period and her sacrifice would not be forgotten by her surviving mother. Renenutet would continue to serve the Coalition of Deities and ultimately meet a Rif man during the Rif War of 1911 to 1927 in what is Morocco of today. It was not uncommon for the cobra goddess to take up human mates. Human mortals only lived for so long and were always a good source in providing children for her. She would eventually bore a daughter from him and name her Meretseger to honor her daughter that long since passed. The father would do his best as a parent and even offered Meretseger a family heirloom. The scarf that was passed from generation to generation. She wears her father's gift to this day to honor his lineage. Meretseger, is very much like her mother and seems very similar to the original daughter. Meretseger was very qualified in artisan work and was an expert craftswoman. Her skills were so excellent that she wanted to work in the Great Forge as a blacksmith. There was one catch to this wanted job. The Coalition of Deities had somebody that already works in the Great Forge and that was none other than Satan or the Devil himself. The Devil much like the other mythics, deities, legendary characters, had sacrificed much to battle Cataclysm. Hell, his home had been consumed by the enormous creature, and the Devil had nowhere to go. The Coalition of Deities offered him a job as the head Blacksmith for the Great Forge. This mythical forge, was where the most significant weapons, equipment, and armor were manufactured and repaired for the other mythics to use. Satan is an expert at his profession and the mythics feel happy knowing that he has a place to serve instead of running amok. This of course, does leave issues though. Should he be the only one working there? Where is the oversight? Is he doing what he is supposed to be doing? Is he doing something that he shouldn't be doing? All these questions arose, and eventually, Meretseger was offered to work beside him in the Great Forge. Learning from the best, the cobra goddess works in the secret location creating and repairing equipment as of the 1980s. The underground site of extreme heat and ice, allows the perfect area to create the mystical weapons needed for the Coalition to continue into the 21st century and beyond.
