Incinda’gash, Capital of the Incindian Subclan

*Spoilers if you haven’t read Gabatrix: The First Peace* “A world of ice. A world of cold. A world of tragedy. A world that strives. A world that lives,” Kinda’gash,, 2339 AD. The world of Icinda’gash and the Icindians have had a long history of struggling against hardship under the Gok’shinta Shal’rein subclan. They serve as a testament to surviving in cold environments and enduring when all seemed lost. Tragedy after tragedy, the legacy of the Icindian Shal’rein is that they never give up. History            The Icindian Shal’rein were considered to be one of the older Shal’rein subclans that existed alongside the Helera’kun. Their history follows 170,000 years ago when the Gash subclan made a series of victories in carving out the territories in Shal’rein clan space. For a time, three primary superpowers resided in Shal’rein territories. The Gash people are considered to be the late descendants of former Earth’s goblin sharks, known for their large overhead pointed snouts. However, as natural and artificial-induced evolution progressed through the 100,000 years, the large snouts began to shrink. While these Shal’rein still carry the genes, much of the original looks of the Goblin sharks have faded. The Gash people, for a time, controlled much of the fate in the internal struggle for Shal’rein dominance.            It isn’t precisely clear as to what happened, but by 145,000 years ago, the Gash fell into a wave of obscurity. They suffered a series of defeats and began to fade away from the Itrean galactic spectrum. Itrean historians claimed that diseases played a part in their failing campaigns, but it’s mostly believed that the Gash simply fell apart as a society. Gash worlds would join under the banner of Zhav’Grin the Great to form the Gok’Shinta subclan. Many of the Gash would interbreed with the Gok’Shinta, and their genes and culture would fade away as generation after generation would be born. This had been most common in Shal’rein history as many of the Shal’rein subspecies would be either wiped out or swallowed up by major superpowers.             However, what is known is that a group of Gash, known as the Icindians, would venture out into space to find a new world to call home. The goal of the Icindians 138,000 years ago was to bring forth the rise of former Gash nationalism. They partly succeeded, as they managed to score victories in areas where the Gok’Shinta offered little resistance. Gok’Shinta was a Shal’rein superpower that would control almost 50% of the entire Shal'rein clan. The Icindians knew that fighting against such a behemoth was a staggering challenge. Instead, the Icindians decided to settle on a planet that would become their capital 134,000 years ago. The world would be called Incinda’gash.            Icinda’gash and its colonization were challenging for the people. The planet was considered to be somewhat similar to the planet of Venus, where the planet’s poles were reversed. Essentially, the world spun backward around an orbit of a high K-type star. While it was liveable, it lay far from the habitable zone, where life was the coldest for life to exist. This, in combination with a world where each day was around five Icinda’gash years, produced some of the harshest environments. Essentially, one side of the planet would receive just enough heat to melt small portions of the ice as the rest was laden with thick snow. Even in this ‘temperate’ area, powerful snowstorms, blizzards, and freezing temperatures could quickly kill any human being without the proper protection.            The Icindians had learned to be nomads in their own world, having cities that would operate above and below the surface. Populations would migrate slowly as the planet would spin to the areas that were well-heated. Entire cities would be made operational to be made abandoned for years later. However, the former Gash people had succeeded in adapting. While the Xixic found desert worlds to live on, the Icindians would find frozen worlds. The “Ice-Sharks” would begin carving a small set of territories in areas that the Gok’Shinta held little value in. While the Icindians would never rise to the great strength of the former Gash, the people would, at least, still live on.            The rise of Icinda’gash would become a silent rallying cry for the remaining Gash. By 129,000 years ago, the Icindians knew that Gok’Shinta would eventually swallow Icinda’gash as they lacked the resources to fight back against such an overwhelming force. However, the Icindian will to live in such inhospitable worlds became an overwhelming advantage. Even with the alliance pact constructed between the Gok’Shinta, the Gok’Shinta left the Icindians almost to their own sovereignty. Essentially, the ice sharks were free to colonize the worlds that the Gok’Shinta found “too cold” to live on. Very little interbreeding or cross-cultural contamination occurred that saved the subspecies from extinction. In return, the Icindians would supply “snowtroopers” and other armies that could operate in severe cold environments against the enemies of Gok’Shinta.            Despite the accomplishments of the planet, the Icindian history had become mostly mute for quite some time. Even up to the rise of the Jalgren Empire, the Icindians had become a subclan to a subclan. They followed the whims and decisions made by the Gok’Shinta. This wasn’t to say that they did nothing. They still managed to expand their sphere of influence for quite some time. Up to 8 worlds would be controlled, with Icinda’gash becoming a central hub for the Icindians. It was never intended for the planet to become a trading post. However, it still served as an administrative center.            With Jalgren expanding his sphere of influence, the Icindians held up to their end in resisting the Aksren Emperor, much as they had done in repelling any other Itrean clan invasion. However, by 30,000 years ago, it had become obvious that Jalgren was unstoppable. With both the Gok’Shinta and the Nak’Ko’Ken battered to submission, the Icindians had the rough choice to continue fighting or give up. Surprisingly, the people did try to resist, becoming one of the last Shal’rein worlds to surrender to Jalgren. Itrean historians had surmised that the Icindians had hoped that their icy worlds could resist bombardment. The people had become hardened to whatever extreme events would occur. Indeed, the terrain did make it difficult to destroy underwater facilities and snow-frozen facilities buried under tons of rock. It wouldn’t be until Jalgren had introduced new munitions that could pierce through the combination of such materials that it made it possible to destroy each important facility. Ultimately, the Icindians had no choice but to surrender.            However, much to the surprise of the Icindians, their home wasn’t doomed to eradication. The people were spared to become citizens of the Empire eventually. The short time span of equal rights under Jalgren’s rule had become a tipping point in Icinda’gash’s history. The planet had become a winter wonderland, offering both an economic focal point for the Icindians and cultural hub. More was done for the Icinda’gash history during the Jalgren Empire than what took almost 100,000 years to ever accomplish. Unfortunately, as with almost all Itrean history, the Jalgren Empire wasn’t to last. Corruption and racism were the undoings of the Empire. It resulted in the inevitable Rototrein Rebellion 10,000 years ago. For Icinda’gash, the people were quick to ally with Gok’shinta and resist Imperial rule that had become little more than a degraded outpost.            With the end of the Rototrein Rebellion, the Icindians were quick to reclaim and repair their small realm. Much as in the prior history of the Jalgren Empire, Icinda’gash had fallen into a history of subtleness. It would fight to resist incursions and assist Gok’Shinta in whatever the subclan desired. However, the planet had become the capital of the Icindian subclan. Within 5,000 years ago, a second small, tethered shipyard had been manufactured to help serve as a light trading post. Icinda’gash had remained firm in holding its place and surviving against whatever was thrown against it.            Unfortunately, the history of Icinda’gash came tumbling down with the arrival of the Emphra. Every world was at stake, and everyone fought for their lives. By 2284, it had become evident that each clan could barely resist them. Planets fell and only added to the ever-growing hunger for the silver menace. In early 2286, the alien invasion resulted in widespread destruction against all Itrean clans. Icinda’gash had become a central battleground when the Emphra launched a large-scale invasion of their world. The Icindians fought bravely, and there was a great effort made by Gok’shinta to stop it, but it had become obvious that the Emphra were too powerful. The fleets overwhelmed almost all defenses. A difficult decision was made to abandon hopes of saving the population. Icinda’gash would be conquered by mid-2286, resulting in up to 89% of the population being wiped out. What was further added was that with the loss of the planet, the Emphra would continue to spread to other Icindian worlds. The subclan is believed to take the worst casualties out of all of the minor subclans of the Emphra War. The numbers are staggering, showing that up to 78% of the entire Icindian subculture had been eliminated in the course of 20 years. In 2287, a daring raid by Shalr’rein forces only resulted in nuclear bombardment by Itrean forces in hopes of purging or slowing down the Emphra from further spreading.            It wouldn’t be until 2296 that the united Itean clans would send a force to eliminate the Emphra at Icinda’gash. The environment made it difficult, but ultimately, the Emphra were completely purged from the planet in 2298. Even then, the world had suffered greatly. Much of the infrastructure had been ravaged, and cleanup was difficult. What took the Icindians 100,000 years to build had been ruined in a way that could never be repaired. Many of the former population had scattered to various other Shal’rein worlds in early 2300. Some families would even relocate to Yutilian space to live out their lives in peace under the warmer worlds that they fought hard to avoid.            Despite the enormous casualties inflicted upon the Icindians, many haven’t given up. The rebuilding years of 2300-2320 still saw an effort to assess the damage on Icinda’gash. While many of the worlds had been repaired and restored, it almost seemed that Icinda’gash was going to be outright abandoned. However, in the early 2330s, a warrior named Yopa, a fellow Icindian, decided to mount the resources needed to begin rebuilding the planet. The effort was just enough to restore up to 25% of the infrastructure by the time 2340 would hit. Regrettably, Yopa would die from Zilik’s Disease, but his daughter would continue to lead the efforts in rebuilding. Even with the deadly disease that has ravaged the Itreans, the Icindians are working together to reclaim their lost capital. By 2349, it is believed that up to 29% of the infrastructure had been re- established. With the Itrean Civil War in full fruition, most likely, the planet will never be restored completely at any time soon. But, it is believed that ultimately, Icinda’gash will see the return of its former glory in the future.
