Gim *Click**Click* Mark 1047 Class Medium
Assault Carrier
*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The
First Peace arc*
“There is one transport that identifies all of
Shal’rein resistance. It is the heart and soul of
freedom, one that will see a future that never
ends….” Rototrein, the Liberator.
One of the oldest Itrean designs to ever be
used in the Shal’rein clan. The Gim *Click**Click*
assault carrier is one that dates back as far as the
Rototrein Rebellion. The fact that within 10,000
years shows that no design is too old to still be
used today.
Design
The history of the Gim *Click**Click* class
Medium Assault Carrier, sometimes simply called
“Ga’Gims,” was first introduced as far back as the
beginning of the Rototrein Rebellion nearly 10,000
years ago. At the advent of the collapse of the
Empire of Jalgren, the Shal’rein clans united to
rebel against the corrupt empire. The Gok’shinta
subclan would forge new warship designs for their
people in hopes of rebuilding their navy and taking
the war in fighting Imperial warships. Among them
was the Gim *Click**Click*.
The Ga’Gim is officially considered a
medium assault carrier/gunship transport,
designed to be built at a steady rate. They are
neither too cheap nor expensive, serving as a basic
design to ferry troops, vehicles, and aircraft to
new planets. It is capable of serving as a basic
space combatant, although battleships and
dreadnoughts are more suited for the role. At the
time of the Rototrein Rebellion, the simplicity of
the design allowed the carriers to be built in mass
to help overwhelm Imperial ground defenses.
However, their more expensive cost meant that
they were built in fewer numbers than the
Imperial Topresa Light Assault Carriers.
Regardless, Rototrein used what he had,
and ships like the Gim *Click**Click* would be
used in conjunction with other Itrean rebels to
slowly push the Empire of Jalgren to inevitable
defeat. The carriers could easily carry Alara’jal
soldiers, along with Shal’rein vehicles and
submersibles, into battle. At the time of the
Rebellion, the Itrean rebels were in the early
phases of building warships with spinning
centripetal rings. Costs limited production to
battleships and dreadnoughts that could venture
for prolonged periods, just as the Empire had
heavily utilized in their warship designs.
The issue with the Ga’Gims, is that they
were designed to be stored on planetary surfaces
or moons. This meant that they could be destroyed
on the ground before eventual takeoff. Other
larger Shal’rein assault carriers utilized spinning
centripetal ring modules so the ships could remain
in space and respond more quickly to attacks.
However, there was still an argument for keeping
assault carriers on the ground as mission
perimeters could often force radical changes to
meet the needs of the battlefield, along with
having to keep production costs down. The Ga’Gim
saw little change in the early years of usage. Due
to early poor economics and rapid deployment of
the Rebellion, the transports were poorly armed
for their roles. However, by the end of the
Rototrein Rebellion, they utilized heavy
autocannons to provide better support.
While the Gok’shinta subclan heavily
utilized the Ga’Gims, the unity of the Shal’rein clan
meant that all the Shal’rein used them at the time.
They became the perfect supplementary transport
during the next 10,000 years and saw endless
amounts of nonstop campaigns and sorties, even
being used as interdiction ships to help enforce
the larger territories.
However, by the time of the Emphra War,
the transports would serve as the great
frontrunner for Shal’rein clan resistance against
the Horrid Ones. They could easily ferry troops,
tanks, and aircraft into battle, but the issues with
the transport still being stored on ground bases
meant that the Emphra could seize and use them
for themselves. By the end of the Emphra War, the
production of the Ga’Gims would cease, as the
Shal’rein economy had been heavily impacted. The
Tiltra class Heavy Carrier would become the
inevitable replacement for most of the Shal’rein
troop transports due to military spending cutbacks
and the United Itrean Republic’s desire to push for
peace between the clans.
Regardless, many of the Shal’rein hadn’t
forgotten the purpose of the Gim *Click**Click*
carrier. With the advent of the Itrean Civil War and
the collapse of the United Itrean Republic, the
plans of the Ga’Gims were thrust into the open
once again. Very few changes were made to the
previous variants as production for them began
immediately in 2339.
History
Despite the reintroduction of the Ga’Gims,
the early days of the Itrean Civil War warranted
very few encounters with the Mark 1047. The
Shal’rein militaries would utilize the heavier
assault carriers along with a few Emphra War Relic
Mark 1046s instead. By the time they were built in
sizeable numbers, Zilik’s Disease completely shut
down most of the production. In fact, the Shal’rein
council almost canceled all production outright,
seeing that the Hiko class Carrier could still
supplement the reduced armies and be built in
suitable numbers.
Regardless, the Autarch overruled and
wanted to have the Ga’Gims available. By the time
2342, production resumed, and they would
ultimately be used in various campaigns. On the
ground, the Ga’Gim is second to none when
pressed against the other Itrean assault carrier
counterparts. The transports were more suited for
direct combat, even more than the Hiko, once they
reached the surface. It was not uncommon for
ground invasions to utilize a few of the medium
assault carriers purposely as frontline hitters, as
the Hiko would serve more in the front and
backlines. Many UHN analysts see the Gim
*Click**Click* today as a fallback vessel, used
heavily in Shal’rein clan space, yet still unseen by
most UHN personnel. Even during the times of the
Shal’rein incursions into UWA space, they held
back from bringing their Ga’Gims against UHN
assets, as the Shal’rein preferred to eliminate
most space forces before bringing them in.
With all stated, many UHN analysts are
quite concerned over the Gim *Click**Click class as
their capability as a heavy gunship makes them a
terrifying foe against marine forces. Its heavy
guns and good support capability allow it to
obliterate most UHN ground defenses with ease. A
newer Mark 1048 has also been seen in use as well.
As the saying goes “The first rule of combat
against the Shal’rein is to never let them reach the
ground.” Both Aksren and T’rintar forces do what
they can to ensure that none of these ships ever
reach the surface, as even a few could cause heavy
damage until they are brought down. Only time
will tell if the Shal’rein will dedicate their
resources to building more and more Ga’Gims,
carrying a history that they were once responsible
for bringing down an entire Empire…..
