Druk
If it is one thing that is obvious in the world,
it is dragons. Virtually every society has its own
variation of them. Among one of lesser known
dragons is that of Druk, but who is he and what
does he do?
Druk is the grand dragon of the high
mountains of the Himalayas. Known so well in the
areas of Tibet and the neighboring nation of
Bhutan that he is beyond sacred to the people.
Asiatic dragons are considered to be holy,
benevolent (for the most part), and powerful.
Perhaps it is only their physical features are the
things that make them genuinely different in the
end when it comes to dragons from Europe and
even Africa. Druk is a thunder dragon of the great
stream of mountains. It is here that he has a
fantastic amount of territory to himself as only a
few would honestly know of his existence. In
reality, Bhutan holds Druk in such high regard that
he is actually on the flag itself. In fact, it actually
goes so far that the word Bhutan is officially
known as the Kingdom of Druk.
It is here that the great dragon has made a
home. Worshipped by the people and idolized,
Druk has been the symbol to the people of Tibet
and Bhutan. A guardian and great power, the
thunder dragon seemingly has the entire
landscape of mountains to himself. The flag often
depicts the dragon holding round jewels that
represent wealth.
In Tales of Heroes, dragons very much exist,
but usually in different forms. The dragons of
Europe and Russia typically have three forms that
they can take. The example of these forms can be
their most powerful form, an in-between form, and
human form. For most of the dragons of Asia, they
can have a form of a human or a dragon. This may
seem to be a limitation as characters like Druk,
have to always be in his human form when
associating with other human beings. This isn’t
entirely the case for him. Druk is by all standards,
the most powerful thunder dragon to exist on
Earth. Even other mythics that use lightning
cannot compare to his power.
The fact is, Druk really did have the place to
himself. The nation of Bhutan and Tibet are not a
heavily populated area. The endless stream of
mountains of the Himalayas is probably one of the
lowest density areas for human populations that
there is. The jewels however, are not exactly a
representation of wealth but are much more than
that. Druk is capable of breathing lightning and
even channeling it in his very hands. The jewels
that he uses are actually channeling crystals that
reflect and amplify his lightning. It was said that
he could redirect his lightning and even use the
powerful gems to level the mountains itself.
Sadly, much like many of the mythics on
Earth, the terrible foe known as Cataclysm would
result in many deaths of the deities, mythical
creatures, and characters on Earth. Druk was
initially part of the 6th wave that was sent to go
after the destructive entity. Many witnessed him
going into the creature and vanish, much like the
rest of the known mythics. He was assumed dead
ever since……
However, word is often told in Bhutan that
the great dragon exists. The occasional eyewitness
often warrants the attention of the Coalition of
Deities that send teams to explore the endless sea
of mountains. While nothing is found, it doesn’t
mean that the dragon doesn’t exist. The Himalayas
is probably one of the most annoying areas to
explore for the Coalition. Dragons such as Apalala,
still exist and walk the Earth, which often attracts
attention to the other mythics. Where is the great
thunder dragon, and how did he survive?
The greatest piece of evidence was found
during the exodus of the Tibetan Dalai Llama when
he was forced to leave Tibet in 1959. The Tibetan
Rebellion that resulted in China taking over Tibet
would warrant a search by the mythics of the
surrounding area for anything that may be out of
the ordinary. Surprisingly, something unusual was
found far from the capital. One of the fabulous
jewels of Druk was discovered. Further search for
the great dragon still exists to this day. Perhaps he
is with the people of Tibet as the Dalai Lama went
to India. Who knows?
