The Dixik Mark 2 Class Defense Battleship
*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The
First Peace arc*
"The history of this ship serves as a restoration of
the glory days of Yutilian prowess. I’m proud to
serve on this ship and swear to die by it, if need
be,” A Yutilian veteran serving onboard a Dixik
Mark 2.
The return of the prime late war battleship
design of the Emphra War was a somewhat
welcome sight to some of the T’rintar clan crews.
The Dixik has sealed its legacy of being a
formidable foe while being easily able to counter
numerous assaults against the original Emphra
and future enemy clan attacks. However, when
other warships are present, the Mark 2 battleships
have instead seen a muddled start. Their glory
days have been almost muted.
Design
The Dixik Mark 2 class battleship was one
that was strongly debated for the T’rintar clan. The
idea of having a warship solely dedicated to
missile launchers seemed like a viable sight. On
paper, the history of the original Mark 1 Dixik’s
blasting waves of Emphra vessels was pushed
upon by the Emphra War veterans. At the same
time, many in the T’rintar clan criticized the idea
of returning to an all missile warship. While
ancient Yutilian combat philosophy believed in
long-range warfare, it always proved as a
pragmatic dilemma. Even during the Emphra War,
the Dixik’s suffered from running out of munitions.
When it did happen, the vessels were mostly
useless and needed to return to base or resupply
at another ship. The Ikras, I’ralas, and Italq
battleships were controversial in their own right in
having a railgun but solved the problem when the
warships ran out of guided munitions. At the same
time, they at least had something when the
Shal’rein clan warships broke through to attack
them.
At the same time, however, the T’rintar clan
still saw a need to have an all missile battleship.
The Dixik, despite having a name similar to the
Mark 1s, did have some noticeable changes. For
one, the battleship used the same hull
configuration as that of the Italq Mark 2
battleships. The only real main difference was that
the railguns were removed and replaced with
similar heavy torpedo launcher pods that could
house the anti-ship missiles. When used in
conjunction with the VLS launcher system, the
Dixik can unleash a powerful salvo of guided
munitions upon the enemy. The front bow also
removes the heavy torpedo tubes and replaces
them with a small CIWS and guidance array
antenna. While the vessel does hold some
resemblances to that of the Mark 1, internally, the
compartments and equipment are much different.
Regardless, many knew that the Italqs was
going to become a mainstay force for the T’rintar
clan. Many could see that the Dixik Mark 2s
needed to have an intended role, and that would
be to stay close to home. There, it would help
alleviate the Italqs to serve in more aggressive and
deep space patrols rather than being kept at home
all the time. Being at home also allowed the Dixiks
to be able to reload their stock of munitions in
case of sieges.
History
There is no doubt that the return of the Dixik
battleships had some crews in cheer. However,
with a new generation of teams to operate them,
many found the vessels to be cumbersome. Many
simply saw them as mobile missile launcher
platforms. Crews that transferred from former
Italqs found things to be the same to navigate
inside, while former Dixik Mark 1 crews found
almost nothing similar in the interior.
Regardless, the Dixik had advantages and
disadvantages. At home, they were perfect for
their role. It did exactly what it was designed to
do. Instead of being a prime warship like it was in
the Emphra Wars, it was a supplementary warship
in the Itrean Civil War. In reality, in defensive
campaigns, the Dixik Mark 2 proved to be
incredibly lethal in design. The massive salvos
could easily obliterate and overwhelm the most
powerful of Itrean clan warships. However, the
missile launcher layout was pragmatic. The VLS
missiles would have to be launched first. Then, the
torpedoes would have launched afterward. If both
were fired at the same time, the missiles and
torpedoes could threaten to collide into one
another upon firing.
In valiant defenses of planetary worlds, the
Dixik Mark 2 did its job. However, many compared
the ships as “glass cannons,” being utterly useless
against Shal’rein raid fleets that closed in to pound
the vessels at unavoidable close ranges. Some
would counter-argue that the Dixiks still manage
to prevent many raid fleets and full-scale offenses
from ever happening.
As of the current moment, the UHN barely
ever sees the famed Dixik. The only true exception
is in the case of crew exchanges that get to go on
voyages to see how other T’rintar clan vessels
operate and function when going out to train with
the alien staff. The legacy of the ship is one of rear-
guard duty. Regardless, the Dixik Mark 2 still
makes up for 20% of the battleship inventory in
the T’rintar clan. The clan plans on using and
keeping them far in the future.
