The Bresh Mark 1 Class Scouting Battleship

*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The First Peace arc* "No one can say anything wrong with this ship. It can slip in and out of enemy lines and territories. By the time the defenses activate, we’re already gone,” A Yutilian crew member. What is often considered to be one of the best-produced reconnaissance warships, the Bresh has proven time after time its capability of performing some of the most dangerous jobs ever known. Yet, at the same time, this dangerous job is one that results in probably the fewest losses than any known clan scout ship. The T’rintar clan often love this vessel, but it does have a few shortcomings. Design The concept of the Bresh goes as far back as the Emphra Wars when many Adjuncts needed quick reconnaissance vessels that could go into enemy space. Scouting was a dangerous job. When the Yutilian clans joined the alliance, they mostly used their cloaking battleships since the Emphra had little to no effort in detecting them. The issue, however, was that the cloaking battleships were expensive to produce, and they were needed to assist fleet actions and serve in scouting alike. There were simply too few to do the job. Most of the time, the Itreans would just send the standard wayward battleship to wander in extreme ranges to acquire the information and get out before the defenses would activate. While it worked, commanders still wanted something better as the data acquired from extreme ranges was not fully adequate. The Yutilians had offered an alternative design where a ship could be built with a disposable pre-constructed gate array. There, it would be much closer to the target and acquire better information before using the array to make its escape. Even with such a fantastic design idea, it was never built and remained in the design block. With recovering economies, the schematics were further shelved. Regardless, the T’rintar clan had seen the value of such a vessel. Cloaking technology was more widespread as the other clans had adopted their own cloaking battleships. Sensors were being better adapted in tracking them. With economics being a deciding factor, there was an actual value of having a scouting warship that could carry its own prefabricated gate array. With the Itrean Civil War on its way in 2339, the clan decided to revisit the design. The schematics were updated, and the Bresh class was being created. In reality, the concept was a feasible one and quite viable. Not only would it carry advanced sensor equipment, but it was wholly revolved around its own carried gate array. Creating a wormhole takes time to do it. The Itreans had always improved the concept, but having a prefabricated gate array does solve this. Once the Bresh is fired upon, it can jettison the array and activate it. Once that is done, it can simply reverse course through it to safety before the array is detonated. While very effective, the prefabricated arrays do have a cost to using them. Most clans had experimented with them before but usually found the designs as expensive. Even the Bresh has to travel at extremely slow speeds or not at all. Otherwise, folding space won’t work. If it’s already in a state of motion, then the array is useless. Another issue is that the array makes the Bresh in having a much wider profile. In order to make jumps, the wormholes have to be bigger to make up for it. In some instances, this can be an issue in the ship trying to jump from system to system. Essentially, the idea of making a cheap ship results in an impractical design. Regardless, if the shortcomings are overlooked, the Bresh could work very well. In many aspects, the ship is a combat model of the research ships of the Itreans. It’s equipped with basic CIWS guns and a small forward mini-missile array. It’s not designed to fight the enemy warships or engage in hit and run tactics but still protect itself in emergency situations. History The first Bresh was built and commissioned in 2338. Many claimed it came right at the perfect time as acquiring information on enemy bases and whereabouts was extremely important. The ships proved to work from the start, committing to dangerous missions in probing enemy space and jumping out before enemy defenses would pursue. The gate array rarely needed to be used, but when they did, the ship would escape to safety. When they returned, the vessels would have new prefabricated arrays built in their place. It didn’t take long for other clans to report that the T’rintar had a probe vessel that could quickly escape before being destroyed. The Bresh worked exceptionally well in their jobs. Despite the advantages, the Bresh was still an expensive vessel to create. The idea of having a ship cheaper than a cloaking battleship worked, but the cost of creating the Bresh was almost the same cost as the standard battleships. Even when compared to other scouting warships that the clan uses, the Bresh is the costliest to produce. Many in the T’rintar clan feel that the vessel is still worth the high price as it reflected the philosophy of having the data and crews brought back safely was more than imperative. As of 2350, while the ships have taken damage, there are no reported losses of a Bresh class, an effective record that no other warship in war can beat. To this day, the Bresh is a more standalone ship. They have been one of the few vessels that the T’rintar clan has openly used to go deep into enemy territory to return back alive. With a clan that focuses on defensive posturing and little offensive campaigns, the Bresh has done an incredible job in providing valuable information on enemy fleet whereabouts. It has provoked the clan to even introduce the new Mark 2 as a continuation of that legacy. *Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The Silver Rain arc* The Bresh has been seen off and on in the UWA territories with the UWA and T’rintar clan alliance. Usually, they are kept at their respected home bases. When the UHN Columbus sent off a distress call near Eutera, the UHN Paul Jones and the scout ship Kig were dispatched to investigate it. Technically, according to the T’rintar, the scout ship was really there to monitor the situation rather than be a true support ship to the Paul Jones. The main goal of the Kig was to evaluate the series of events. If it proved to be a hostile enemy fleet, then the Kig was to withdraw and notify the clan to send in reinforcements to Eutera if necessary. While it proved to be a case where the Emphra had infested the ship, the Kig remained on standby if things got out of hand. The Paul Jones would pull their surviving marines off of it, scuttle the Columbus, and both ships left to return to their respected bases.
