The Bewo’rein Class Medium Assault Carrier
*Spoilers if you haven't read past Gabatrix: The
First Peace arc*
“The Shal’rein that serve the T’rintar clan will bring
their clan to victory, for a ship of their service is
one that will carry them afar,” Bewo’rein’s Widow,
2342.
The first assault carrier built specifically for
the T’rintar clan, for a marginalized species. The
Bewo’rein is a pioneer assault carrier of its class. It
serves as the perfect bridge gap for the common
lighter assault carriers of the T’rintar clan while
becoming a suitable replacement for the T’rintar
clan’s aging Tiltras.
Design
With the ending of the Emphra War in 2299,
the former Yutilian clan had made a bold decision
in allowing refugees of the Aksren and Shal’rein
clans to live in their space. While some families
were given free passage back to their ravaged
homes, some families decided to stay and call the
Yutilian worlds their home. At the time, the very
concept of this type of thinking was unheard of as
the Itrean species carried common blood feuds
between species. However, the now renamed
T’rintar clan decided to look at the incoming
refugees as a potential benefit. On the ground,
T’rintar Shal’rein were stronger and more powerful
than Yutilians. Within 20 years of the end of the
Emphra War, new Shal’rein raised under the
T’rintar banner began to serve in the former
Yutilian armies. T’rintar clan resources were
devoted to purchasing Shal’rein vehicles to help
serve these new soldiers that T’rintar Shal’rein
could operate.
With the United Itrean Republic, the T’rintar
government purchased and utilized the Tiltra class
Heavy Assault Carrier as the mainstay troop
landing and vehicle deployment vessel. Being a
former Shal’rein design, the cargo and barracks
holds were perfect at handling not only the larger
Shal’rein bodies, but also the great Shal’rein battle
tanks in turn. The Tiltra had become the perfect
assault ship during much of the United Itrean
Republic.
However, it was decided by the advent of
the Itrean Civil War and collapse of the United
Itrean Republic that a suitable replacement vessel
was needed for the Tiltra class Assault Carrier. The
Tiltras, while useful, had no replacement parts.
The T’rintar clan had considered introducing a
Tiltra Mark 2 design for some time, but ultimately
saw the vessels as expensive to produce when
dreadnoughts and other battleships could be built
in far greater numbers. An enlarged N’Jip light
assault carrier was also considered, but ultimately
dropped. The T’rintar clan wanted a large troop
transport vessel that could remain at home and
deployed from planets.
The Bewo’rein was ultimately drawn up as a
new design that does not fall upon past designs.
The unnamed prototype was worked on as far as
2339 but wasn’t revealed until 2341. The center
cargo hold was much larger than the N’jip to house
T’rintar Shal’rein vehicles, along with being able to
carry T’rintar Shal’rein soldiers. Much like many of
the Shal’rein assault carriers, the vessel is an
extension platform for the T’rintar armies. This
includes a small hangar bay capable of deploying
and recovering six T’rintar Shal’rein fighter craft.
The vessel does carry two large wings for
planetary flight. However, the wings can easily
fold up onto the frame to allow better storage.
Besides the array of CIWS autoguns, particle
beam turrets, and light railgun turrets for basic
defense, the primary armament of the Bewo’rein
consists of two large Micro-missile box launchers
housed next to the bow/aft thruster modules. This
allows the vessel to maintain a steady rate of fire,
pouring withering volleys of small rockets over
targets until the assault carrier ultimately runs
out of munitions. While the N’jip can deploy all its
micro missiles much quicker, the Bewo’rein is
capable of deploying more missiles over time.
By 2342, the prototype vessel was ordered
into production. The vessel would be named after
Bewo’rein, the first Shal’rein adjunct that served
under the T’rintar clan but ultimately passed away
due to Zilik’s Disease.
History
Construction for the Bewo’reins were slow
but steady. Even at the outbreak of the Itrean Civil
War, it would take another two years since its
introduction before they ever saw combat. Many
were kept at home and used as a reserve vessel for
T’rintar Shal’rein soldiers. Reports were promising
for the Bewo’reins. While the N’jip carriers could
still house T’rintar Shal’rein soldiers, the small
cargo holds could not properly carry the T’rintar
Shal’rein battle tanks. The Bewo’reins easily solved
this issue. Soldiers commonly referred to them as
“luxury hotels” due to the bigger space that was
available.
The Tiltra would still serve as the primary
heavy transport of the T’rintar Shal’rein armies
well into 2346. However, it wouldn’t be until the
ground invasion of Hodoie’ox that the Bewo’rein
were used in direct combat. Hodoie’ox, one of the
countless moons of the Kingdom of Gui’optre, was
invaded by Aksren clan forces. The skirmish would
last for well into the day before the T’rintar
launched a counterstrike. Both N’jip and Bewo’rein
carriers were used in conjunction to sweep
through Aksren troop trenches to great effect.
While two of the N’jips were lost, only one
Bewo’rein was damaged, losing its portside wing
and still easily retaining its flight capability.
T’rintar troops were properly deployed and
eventually retook the moon.
Many were impressed by the Bewo’reins.
After Hodoie’ox, the T’rintar clan began to increase
production. However, despite the promising
aspects, the Bewo’reins’ only real limitation was
the limited amount of T’rintar Shal’rein available.
The vast, smaller Yutilians and T’rintar Aksren
formed the core of the T’rintar population, along
with the numerous smaller hovertanks. The cost of
a Bewo’rein was twice of that of an N’jip. This, in
turn, only encouraged the steady production of
N’jip light assault carriers over the Bewo’rein.
Other issues have been brought forth. Despite the
rigidity of the craft, the Bewo’rein’s closer ground
combat capability is still limited, much like the
N’jip designs, forcing them to be a long-range
planetary missile platform. While effective, many
have compared them to the older and more
venerable Shal’rein clan Gim *Click**Click*
medium assault carrier. The Bewo’rein is generally
more expensive, better at long range, but
ultimately suffers in being in far more limited
numbers than its equivalent counterpart.
By 2350, the Bewo’reins have gradually
replaced the T’rintar Tiltra design, though it still
serves primarily as a supplementary craft.
However, with the advent of the T’rintar/UWA
alliance, the possibilities of seeing a Bewo’rein are
only a matter of time.
