Ammit (NSFW)
Among one of the more strange deities out of
Egypt is that of the four-legged demoness/deity
known as Ammit. She is found everywhere in
Egyptian folklore, but who is she, and what
importance does she have on Earth?
Ammit goes by many names. She is
sometimes called Ammut or Ahemait. Sometimes
she has been associated with the goddess Taweret.
Ammit is often depicted in Egyptian artwork as
dog-like being shorter than Anubis. Much artwork
even depicts a jackal god standing next to Ammit
almost as a companion or guardian. The original
concepts of her go as depicting her as the goddess
of divine retribution. When a person dies in Egypt,
their souls would see the god Osiris. There you
would list the sins that you committed during your
lifetime. Osiris was generally forgiving, and other
deities also weighed on not the concept of being
good or evil but being balanced. Your soul would
be measured by the scales of Maat to see if you
were to be judged.
Ammit is known as the “Devourer of the
Dead,” but surprisingly, there is debate on this. If
you were guilty, you were tossed into the lake of
fire. There Ammit would be looking down upon
you. Her job was to actually protect the lake from
harm, almost as if she was a Cerberus in Greek
mythology. With her, however, she was a hybrid
being part hippo, part lion or wild cat, and part
crocodile. While some would consider her as a
demon or a goddess, she was more looked at as a
force for order.
In other stories, Ammit was known to be
close to the god Anubis. Much like the former
story, Anubis would weigh the person’s heart to be
judged. If you were guilty, Anubis would toss the
heart to Ammit to eat it. It was said to be a form of
second death to the Egyptians and often most
feared the great demoness in return. There is
some speculation that Ammit was depicted as a
human goddess. Regardless, Ammit had her place,
and even if she wasn’t worshipped, many knew
her and her purpose. Do not anger her and treat
her well.
In Tales of Heroes, Ammit is one of the
survivors after the great destroyer known as
Cataclysm. Some Egyptian mythics/deities were
lost forever, but Ammit had survived. Do not let
her look misjudge what you think of her. That is
your first mistake, as she is powerful and
terrifying. She remains a close friend and
companion to Anubis. A few may even think of
Ammit as possibly the daughter to Anubis because
of the close relationship. She does speak, but
when it does, her voice is incredibly deep, and it is
painful to do it all the time.
Ammit is considered possibly one of the odd
mythics in the Coalition of Deities (The surviving
unity of mythics). Many misjudge her and what
she has become in the last 500 years, but a few can
see past her actions. She is actually way smarter
than what most people think of her, and the fact is
what she is doing is probably ingenious. It is a
simple action that she continues to repeat over
and over again. She finds a mate and has children.
How is this smart? Perhaps it is best to look at the
situation as a whole. The mythics have almost
been entirely wiped out. Deities that people have
long worshipped are gone forever. Ammit knows
this, and the numbers need to be replaced. She
genuinely wants to be a mother, and having
children is the best way of replacing those that
were lost.
How does she do this? The action is simple,
and she does it over and over again. It is a tried
and true method. One day you find a woman in
Egypt. She is beautiful and rich. You can’t ignore
the offer she makes to you when she invites you
to her rich mansion. It is a dream come true as you
come to her home. You are treated well, and it all
seems too true. You flirt with her, and she teases
back. The conversation and dinner go well, and she
invites you to her bedroom. You know that you will
be lucky this night. She tells you to turn around
and strip naked. You do so as you notice a faint
like aura of smoke and light.
Upon turning around, you realize that the
woman is not human at all. She never was. You are
naked as she leaps onto you and forces you to the
ground. You are scared out of your mind as she
pins you. Ammit has you in her clutches. She is
insanely powerful, and if you try to flee or
struggle, you know you will die. Instead, she
simply keeps you pinned to the floor. Killing you is
not her goal, and it never was. She instead waits
for a long time while keeping her gaze on you. It is
her goal for you to be used to seeing this image,
for you will see it every night.
What is her goal? She tells you after you
finally calm down. Her wish is simple. She wishes
to become a mother. There are no male Ammits
running around on Earth. This puts her in a lonely
position, and only human beings can become the
next best thing for her. She wishes to be cherished
and loved like any other mythic. Her riches are
yours if you agree to worship her, pleasure her,
and provide the children she wants. She is genuine
in her desires. The mansion is beautiful, and you
know you will die rich. Ammit has done this over
and over again to great effect. The men all die of
old age being the mate of the forgotten Egyptian
deity. You cannot ignore this offer. She will not let
you leave until you give her what she wants.
Perhaps money, riches, and a good wife is all you
need to satisfy you through life. Why not? You
agree with her wishes.
Ammit is probably one of the most successful
mothers in the Coalition of Deities. Fertility magic
is always available. Even though it takes three
years for her to deliver her child, she lives forever.
All she has to do is keep doing it. Within a course
of 500 years, she has had at least six husbands and
over fifty children in total. The children may look
like Taweret, or they might look like Sobek, or they
might look like her. While some of the mythics
always make a joke about her and her numerous
children, some are starting to see what she is
doing. These children grow up and join the ranks of
the Coalition. Her own actions are making the
Coalition stronger and stronger day by day, year by
year.
Genuinely, she wants to be a mother even
though some see that she is raising an army. She
loves each child and cherishes them deeply. Many
can’t argue with what she is doing. The Coalition is
not like it was hundreds of years. It’s not getting
that big quickly, and Ammit is essentially right.
Children are the next generation and the
continuation of the ancient mythics. Humans are
all over the place. They only live so long, and they
can provide the most important things that the
Coalition needs. While they don’t publically
encourage it, many nod their head that this is the
best way the Coalition is going to survive.
This does not mean that you should get on
Ammit’s bad side. Being pregnant does not make
her a nice woman, far from it. She still serves on
missions for the Coalition and fights like a
hundred men. Her jaws are just like the crocodile
and can snap a spine in half with one chomp. If
Anubis points his finger at the man he wants dead,
Ammit will carry it out with ease and simplicity.
Maybe the trail of blood is all that will be left after
she has finished her eating.
The demoness is a proud mother, and she
often goes to Anubis as a way to show her
prowess. Almost as if she is trying to gain his
attention, she continually seeks his praise even if
Anubis barely shows any stray gratitude. Anubis is
always a hard god to please. He has often been
against the idea of seeing her being a mother like
this. She is a fierce creature, after all. It only
angers and annoys him that he doesn’t have her
around. Upon returning back to the throne room,
Ammit discovers her young child chewing on
Anubis’s throne. Needless to say, Anubis won’t be
happy with this……
